The theme of this year's Detroit Auto Show was all about performance. A number of the showings from BMW to Subaru were high performance models of varying degrees. But there were some other surprises to make their way into the show. Which ones made the honor roll and which ones need to see me after the show? Its time for a Cheers & Gears' Report Card. This year's Detroit Auto Show was somewhat down in terms of excitement. But considering last year's show was a 'once in a blue moon' event with a number of highly awaited vehicles and some surprises, 2016 was going to be somewhat a disappointment. Still, a number of automakers were willing to give it a shot and show off new models and concepts that would amaze all.   It is time to see who is on the honor roll and who be heading to detention after the show.   Acura Precision Concept: C Someth

With one week to go before the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the pictures will really start rolling out now. Today we got a much clearer look at the 2016 Chevrolet Volt due to be fully revealed next week. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today, the 2016 Volt peeked its nose through the curtain to give us a better look at it's face. The upcoming Volt will have powertrain improvements rumored to give the EV a 12% gain in electric only range, some of that will com

The long road to Volkswagen's crossover for the U.S. has taken another turn with the introduction of the Cross Coupe GTE Concept. The concept falls in between the seven-seat CrossBlue concept shown at Detroit last year and the and the CrossBlue Coupe shown at Shanghai. The concept carries such details as a two-bar grille, narrow headlights, and flared-wheel arches. As a whole, the concept reminds us of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, especially in the back. The interior is basically the same as the Cr

Toyota released all the details today on the coming 2016 Toyota Tacoma. We showed you some preview pictures of the 2016 Tacoma a few days ago, and we get the specs. Toyota's rebuilt Tacoma appears to be more of a strong refresh rather than the "all-new" that Toyota claims. The frame has been reinforced with high strength steel, body panels are now formed with a hot stamping method that increases strength while decreasing weight, and the suspension has been re-tuned for better on-road comfort wh

And now for something completely different from Toyota. This is the Toyota FT-1 Concept which debuted at the Detroit Auto Show this morning and its a stunner. The FT-1 is the result of two years of hard work at the company’s Calty, California design center. The team drew a lot of inspiration from company’s sporting heritage; cars like the Celica, Supra, MR2 and of course the contemporary Scion FR-S. Toyota says the design is a unique fusion of of both emotional and rational factors, the former

Chevrolet sold different variations of the Cruze around the world, including a hatchback. But you couldn't get it here in the U.S., despite the number of other automakers who offered one. GM's Mark Reuss said in 2013 that it "was a pre-bankruptcy planning mistake.”   But then we got some hope. Last year, we reported that Chevrolet showed a next-generation Cruze Hatchback to its dealers. It was expected that we would see it introduced a year later.
