Detroit Auto Show News: Jaguar Names Its Crossover the F-Pace

  • Jaguar's Crossover Gets A Name

That was fast. Almost a couple of years after introducing the Jaguar C-X17 crossover concept to the world, Jaguar announced that a production version would be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in March. The automaker also revealed the name of the production version - the F-Pace.

While we are still scratching our heads as to why Jaguar has named the crossover the F-Pace, we should give them some credit for not naming it a combination of letters and numbers. The crossover will have seating for five people, come with all-wheel drive, and feature inspiration from the F-Type.

"In 2015 we will celebrate the 80th year of Jaguar. We have started it by announcing our first performance crossover which we consider to be the ultimate practical sports car - a car that builds on the brand's founding ideals of Grace, Pace and Space to become one of the most innovative Jaguar vehicles we've ever developed. The F-PACE has now begun its engineering and development testing program ahead of the new model going on sale in 2016. F-PACE continues the new model roll-out for Jaguar, ensuring 2015 will most definitely be the year of the cat," said Andy Goss, Jaguar Land Rover Global Sales Director.

Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, commented, "We received such an overwhelmingly positive response to the C-X17 concept car last year that we just had to make it a reality.

The only -Type that made sense had already been used... (X-Type).  And they couldn't call it the XX, I guess...

Jaguar keeping it classy as always. It is as said, an excellent sports car with the option of taking the entire family for a spin. Not disappointed in the slightest.

Its still a crossover, not something that Jaguar should be doing really. I know it will sell well but I really don't like the thought of Jaguar making a crossover. I'm sure it will be a very good car though.

If it's more of a raised AWD sports wagon than something too LR-like, then it's OK as it won't go against Jaguar's brand character and also won't step into LR's toes...
