  • The trailblazer for the EQ Family...

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Vision EQS Concept today in Frankfurt. The Vision EQS represents the future of luxurious driving.

Powering the Vision EQS is a dual motor system with continuous all wheel drive with approximately 469 horsepower and with about 560 lbs.-ft of torque. The juice for all that power comes from an approximately 100 kWh battery.  The top speed is estimated at 124 mph and 0 to 60 will happen in less than four and a half seconds.  The Vision EQS is capable of DC fast charging up to 350 KW. Range is estimated at around 435 on the WLTP rating cycle.

The interior of the EQS is intended to remind passengers of the deck of a boat, taking its inspiration from luxury yachts. The interior uses a portion of recycled plastic reclaimed from ocean waste. The wood is Maple from ecologically managed forests in Germany.  By using wood from Germany, it ensures a short transportation distance to reduce the CO2 output of the assembly process.

Interior is not bad, exterior is a jelly bean blob of nothing.

If Mercedes-benz is the BEST OR NOTHING AT ALL, why only 350 kW fast charging when F1e racing using 900 kW charging and Porsche is using 800. This DOES NOT sound like the best or nothing.

Yeah, just concept car fantasy shlock.  Will be interesting to see how a production version would look.  Since they have the production EQC and EQV, I'd assume a sedan EV will be up next...

Odd to see cab forward design on a Mercedes when they are known for long hoods.  Looks pretty good overall, nice power numbers and they’ll do an AMG with more power than this.

The Taycan charges at 250 kw, Tesla Model S at 150 kw.  EQS beats them both although Porsche says 350 kw will be available in 2021.

It only took 10 years(by the time this power train is actually produced and sold) for somebody to catch up to Tesla..

It looks like concept garbage that nothing on the exterior or interior will make to to production.

The only thing news-worthy here is the EV technology.

Daimler builds all these concepts but never puts them into production. This must’ve been approved before the massive budget cut.

I'm assuming the production EQS sedan will look more like an  S-class sedan, the way the EQC looks like the GLC...

From the test mules, it doesn’t look much like an S-class sedan.  The center screen is going into production, the 2021 S-class is getting that screen.  And this vehicle would be in production for 2021 model year.

Clearly you are dyslexic as Porsche will work off all the 250 kW chargers, but it is ALREADY 800 Charger ready and will charge at 800 at the dealerships which are all required to have these extreme fast chargers.

That is why Mercedes-benz has FAILED!

FAILED TO EQUAL PORSCHE, and you call this the best? ?

I got CLS vibes from it.. but as things ove forward that large coupe-like sedan blends in with "true" sedans anyway.

Porsche has an 800 volt electrical system.  The car car charges at a 250 kW rate, which is what the Tesla Model 3 can do, and that is the fastest charging available today.   Porsche has already said they won't get to 350 kW until 2021, Mercedes has 2 years to get this car on sale and they are ahead of Porsche, tied at worst.

The Tesla and Porsche are today products while the EQ is still a concept. Easy to beat someone in concept.

My words exactly. All I’ve heard for the past year is constant Benz EV hype (which normally comes up when a competitor has released and ACTUAL product) and here we are with yet another Daimler concept that’ll be out in “two years” that will look nothing like the concept shown. All hype, no substance.

If I'm being honest, I also expected when the automotive giants(any brand whose been around for 50+ years) put out some EV competition for Tesla, I thought they'd stomp them. I figured they had the money and experience and know-how to just make a better vehicle. Now, that's not to say their build quality won't stomp Tesla's as we've all heard about their sub-standard QC..

EQ S production begins 2020.  They have to finish the factory first, Factory 56 is opening in 2020 and is a carbon neutral plant.  When the factory is open they can start cranking out EQ models and the next gen S-class.

If MB wanted to put its best foot forward & try to challenge Tesla, they should make the next S an EV only, with 400+ range and recharging in 15 mins. And use the concept interior. They are WAY behind!

But they wont bring out any of that.

I expected their first EV to have an optional battery with 400 miles of range. I thoroughly believed they would be the first to crack that barrier and push Tesla down a notch.

The best or nothing..?

Nothing.

Optional?? Should be standard. But Daimler prefers to protect their profit margin instead, so; late to the party.

Well, I understand the idea of a cheaper base model.. I know you do as well.

a 'cheaper/base model S-class??????

Why? It's not 'best or less than best', is it?

The S-class is the most successful full size luxury car the past 40 years.  Why would they change it?  The 7-series and A8 aren't EV only.  All S-classes will be mild hybrids at least, and that is more than a lot of other luxo barges can claim.

EQ S also has nothing to do with an S-class.  Different platforms.

And thousands and thousands of consumers buy those models over the s-class.
If Daimler is convinced electric is the future & has promised to build their entire catalog as EVs, they should start with the flagship sedan. They've already lost 9 years to Tesla as it is.

It's a concept- platform is of no consequence here. But clearly calling it the 'EQS' implies the future for the model. You know; the mercedes definition of 'the future', which never seems to get here. Concept after concept after concept, all sent to the warehouse. But we all know this...

Most of Mercedes’ concepts lead to something, maybe not same model but a version of.  Those Pebble Beach Maybach concepts will inspire the Maybach SUV.    EQ S is going to production in 2020.

Mercedes has a goal by 2039 to be a carbon neutral car company from factory to cars.  European factories carbon neutral by 2022.  These are the most ambitious targets set by any car company.

GM Climate Change Study Report to the EPA which GM has been working on this since 1994.

GM's latest update and a rewrite of their carbon neutral goals has them achieving this in the 2020's time frame compared to 20 years later for MB. Seems MB is not the Best or Nothing, more nothing.

While Ford has not set Carbon Neutral goals, they did set reductions of 30% and achieved it 8 years early.

Here is the current update on GMs sustainability report which shows them making great progress.

“Most successful” but routinely outsold by said Tesla S over the last year or two.

GM’s report shows plenty of CO2 output in 2025.  When will GM have a 100% EV lineup, with 100% of factories that are powered by wind and Solar power?  And if they can pull that off before Daimler then great, that is less pollution.

What about the extraction process for all of these batteries? Isn't that the worst part of the process?

In short... no.

The extraction process for lithium happens in some of the deadest places on earth. Salt flats.
