  • Bentley's first plug-in hybrid gets ready for its debut

Bentley has been planning to launch a plug-in hybrid variant of the Bentayga for 2018 and we have finally gotten our first look at via some new spy photos.

The mule caught in Spain may look like your standard Bentayga, but it features fuel doors on both rear fenders. The standard Bentayga has its fuel door on the right side, meaning the left side is likely for the recharging port. The spy photographer who caught the Bentayga also ran the plates through the United Kingdom's Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) where it was uncovered that the model was using a hybrid system with a 2995cc engine. It seems possible this mule was using a variation of the hybrid powertrain used in the Porsche Cayenne e-hybrid which also uses a 2995cc engine - a 3.0L V6. The Cayenne e-hybrid can travel up to 14 Miles on electric power alone. Whether or not this will appear in the production version remains to be seen.

Bentley is expected to show the Bentayga Plug-In Hybrid at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

H'mmmm <_< Looks like a CUV but a really Ugly CUV. In fact from head on, it reminds me of the butt ugly UK taxis. Sorry but I would not pay $500K let alone $100K for this thing.

Like a more bloated, less attractive Lincoln Continental.

a V6, that's it?  Unless that electric motor has about 250 hp this is a disappointment.  Why not just offer an all electric Bentayga?

Bentleys in general, and the SUV in particular, are distressingly pedestrian looking.
And yikes- all that fireplace mesh screening is incredibly 1-dimensional & cheap.

Actually the mesh grilles are a retro touch...sporting Bentleys since the 20s have had mesh grilles...

As you might say "ancient history". ;)

It's not the heritage aspect, it's the chintzy execution.

The whole thing looks like a nude Hermann Goring suffering from a double dose of barbiturates...
