Next Generation Chrysler Minivan To Be Sold As Two Models*

For their next generation minivan, Chrysler is going down a different route with how they will sell them. Chrysler will drop the Dodge Grand Caravan in the next generation leaving the Chrysler Town & Country to be sold in the US. In Canada, the opposite will happen. Why?

It would certainly be the Dodge Grand Caravan in Canada, but the Town & Country resonates more strongly here in the U.S., so that’s going to be the van in the U.S,” said Reid Bigland, head of Dodge.

Bigland says in the US, the Town & Country outsells the Grand Caravan by two to one. In Canada, it's a different story; the Grand Caravan takes up 70% of minivan sales and is the third-best-selling vehicle in the country.

The next generation Chrysler vans are due out sometime in 2013.

    Seems dimwitted not to sell both here and there if they'll already have the tooling for both models. If they're continuing with their plan to sell all brands at one store, just keep the T&C more luxury oriented and the Caravan more plain and "kid proof", with a sporty trim available also... just like now.

    Didn't realize the T&C outsold the GC 2 to 1....seem to recall Chrysler used to have the least sales of their minivans. It makes sense, though, consolidate with one and reduce marketing/etc costs...

    Here in Canada they can sell a Grand Caravan equipped like a T&C limited and people will buy it. I do prefer the Chrysler but people love their Caravans and would pay for them up here.

    Chrysler shouldn't have a van at all. They should all be Dodges for the passenger version and Rams for the cargo/fleet/airport shuttle version.

    I actually agree. Chrysler should have a wagon. A real luxury wagon, not a sportwagon like the Magnum. The whole me-too attitude is what gets us products like the Blackwood and Aztek... and some products just don't translate into luxury products... like minivans. Mercedes can't seem to pull it off. Granted, Chrysler is not truly a luxury brand anymore... but having one of its better selling products a near clone of the Dodge minivan ain't helping that status.

    Dodge is currently advertising the Grand Caravan as the best-selling minivan of all time. Great idea to kill it.

    When Plymouth was killed, along with the Voyager, the Chrysler T&C had to move downmarket. It should go back to its roots to be the executive express, and let Dodge cover the mass market.
