Nevada Issues A Drivers License To A Driverless Car

Almost a year after the state of Nevada approved legislation to allow tests of self-driving vehicles on public roads, the state has issued its first license for a self-driving vehicle.

The vehicle in question is Google's autonomous Toyota Prius, which has currently logged 140,000 miles and one accident. The accident was caused when a car driven by a person bumped into the back of Google's autonomous car. Google hopes with these tests to dramatically reduce or eliminate these types of incidents.

The Prius will wear a red license plate, with an infinity sign on it next to the number 001.

    While I hold a grain of salt without knowing more details, I am pretty impressed with 140k miles with no accidents that it caused. There are a hundred other questions that would have to be answered in a positive manner before I would deem it worthy of application, but it's some impressive first steps. I would be ok with automated options on highways, but do want to keep the option to choose to drive myself.
