Lexus is in the middle of refreshing their lineup. So far, it has unveiled all-new generations of the GS and ES sedans and revised versions of the LX and RX SUVs. Next up is the LS flagship.

Automobile Magazine got their hands onto some spy shots of the next generation LS undergoing some testing.

Lexus must have missed a class at camouflage U since we can clearly make out the LS' new front end. The front includes Lexus’ new spindle grille and a set of LED headlights flanking either side.

The rest of the LS appears to take on a more evolutionary route. The profile seems to carry the same look, albeit slimmed down.

The spy photographer says the LS will use a heavily modified version of the current LS' platform and maintain its current V8 engines. Also, expect the LS to drop its current performance hybrid powertrain, instead going for one that focuses on fuel efficiency.

I find it amusing how people try to give it (the grille) a name, like there was any sort of concept behind it.

You're not incorrect, friend.

I see lots of folk calling it a 'spindle' grille..., waiting for 'hourglass' to pop up too.

toyota has no design sense whatsoever.... UNLESS they have an option for the car to turn invisible like the movie villian. ;P

Looks like it will be a blend of the current car and an oversized GS. Hopefully the horrible looks scare the old folks away and people stop buying this car. With carryover engines, it is going to look rather underpowered compared to the Germans. Actually, it will look underpowered compared to the Hyundais.

This is a light version of a Predator. Swinging for the other team. They have no design language and just seem to copy elements from everyone else. I am shocked these cars even sell. So many better choices out there.

Lexus buyers are where Toyota buyers go to retire. There are better choices out there, but they don't see it that way. They read CR as if it were the Bible and become lifelong Toyota/Lexus customers. Indeed, Lexus is the triumph of soullessness in cars over those that at least have one. Lexus buyers want an appliance, not a car. Neither GM nor the Germans can change their minds once those buyers join the Lexus hive-mind.

Very true. There are a lot of Toyota loyalists that will never go elsewhere. Lexus vehicles are reliable, and those buyers don't seem to care about style, performance, handling, good looks, etc, they just like the reliability of their appliance.
