Nissan's CEO has a small request for its U.S. arm: Double sales by 2017.

"China was not our biggest, I would say, disappointment. It was mainly the United States. We were expecting a strong year in the United States. It didn't happen," Ghosn told reporters after announcing Nissan's 2012 fiscal results.

In 2012, Nissan's sales in the U.S. rose to 1.1 million - up five percent (and a record year as well). However Nissan lost 0.5 percent of market share (7.7 percent) in the U.S., which puts them further away from reaching a market share goal of ten percent.

So how will Nissan USA pull off this feat? According to Automotive News, the company will streamline production, increase the number of dealers in certain regions, and boosting marketing efforts with key groups.

I decided I wanted my pay to double what i was making 4 years ago too. WOOHOO! HOW HAPPY I AM!!!!!

Altima and Sentra are great toyota alternatives, but the rest of Nissan's lineup don't warrant double sales. Versa? LMAO!!! Cube? Juke? LMAO

Nissan needs to realize that the days of picking off disgruntled GM and Ford buyers is long over. It is a helluva lot more competitive now.

Wont Happen! The CEO is clearly drinking the wrong punch.

Start with better cars, not boring equal stuff to Toyota.

I agree with all that has been posted here so far, but they have to wake up to the fact that they do not have a desirable product line to the youth and with debt still an issue for Americans, they need to look at bringing in quality products that drive EXCITEMENT, not BORING as their current product line does.

If I'm a 28 year old shopping for a sedan and money is tight... am I going to buy the Altima which is ok looking and finances cheap or the Optima which is ok looking, finances cheap, and has a long warranty?

How about producing better cars?

Ain't gonna happen...Nissan is a marketing organization first and a carmaker second...

Optima is the better car, a little better looking, and public opinion is higher for KIA than for Nissan...so the KIA would win out.
