Spying: Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV Mule

  • This isn't an ordinary Phantom

At first glance, you might be wondering why this Rolls-Royce Phantom is making news. It looks like any standard Phantom. But it's when you look a bit closer and notice the raised ride height, aggressive tires, and shorten rear doors that you realize this isn't your ordinary Phantom. It happens to be the mule for Rolls-Royce's first SUV.

 

It is assumed that the mule is using a new aluminum spaceframe architecture that will underpin the entire Rolls-Royce lineup. Judging by the shortened rear doors, it would be safe to assume that SUV will be slightly shorter than the next Phantom. Power will likely come from a V12 of some sort going through a four-wheel drive system.

 

The Rolls-Royce SUV is expected to come out in 2018.

    You can clearly see it does ride about 3-4 inches higher than the regular RR, but I wonder just how high it will be when done. As most companies are lowering all auto's. So this is not that much different, Hopefully better looking though.

    I think about 3 to 4 inches higher would be a good start. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if it came with an air suspension so you can raise or lower it.

    Good Point probably like Porsche SUV airbag system it will probably have a range to choose from for use.

    A Rolls Royce SUV. Wow. Just wow, I wish them well, but how the hell will a 3 box sedan style work on an SUV?

     

    My guess is that it'll look like a hearse on stilts. Especially because RR's have thick chrome window trim, and chrome wheels and the same lines of hearses

    I must say, that is a most accurate description of a possible Rolls Royce SUV...

     

    Compared to a possible RR SUV, Id rather the Lincoln MKT me thinks, as a civilian SUV and as my last ride on the way to Hades...

    This is just a Phantom body on a chassis so they don't have to use plastic panels and zebra swirl wrap.  The SUV isn't going to look like this or like a Phantom wagon,  Rolls-Royce will make it look elegant.  My guess is they use a Range Rover shape, since probably a lot of Rolls-Royce owners also have a Range Rover.

     

    Another thing to remember is just how big a Phantom is.  The short wheelbase Phantom is 230 inches long and 64.5 inches tall.  A Cadillac XT5 is 66 inches tall, so the Phantom already is near crossover height, once they lift the suspension and ride height, plus put a taller body on it, I am sure they'll be around 70-72 inches tall, and a proper SUV height.
