When Volkswagen pulled the covers off the new Golf GTD at the Geneva Motor Show this year, questions arose whether or not the model would arrive in the U.S. Answers were mixed between yes and no. But we now have an answer. The GTD will be coming.

Volkswagen made the announcement this week, saying the GTD will be here in 2015 as a 2016 model. The model will use a 2.0L TDI engine with 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.

"We see it as a very important part of our full range of offerings, a technology halo for our diesel technology," said Andreas Valbuena, VW's product manager for the Golf.

Colour me interested! If this débuts at the same time as the planned diesel Jeep Wrangler, it could make for a tough choice. .

I see this as VW being concerned about the US car companies getting on the TDI band wagon. The Cruze Diesel is a perfect reason to try and corner the market before others can really compete.
