There weren't many before then, not since my parents, aunts, and uncles were younger. It's mostly my generation that's had issues. -My cousin Josh's first wreck, spinning into a tree with his Firebird back in 2000, a few months after getting his license. -My cousin Josh's second wreck involved rear ending someone with his jacked up and modded Ford Ranger. -My Mom's first wreck, when she slid into an embankment and a bridge with her Grand Am in 2002. -My cousin Andy wrecked my Grandma's Sunfire in 2003 or 2004, the fir…

I heard this song the other day on TV or somewhere and it has been bugging me that I can't figure out who sings it. I have no idea what the lyrics are except that there is a male vocalist that goes "do - do Do DOO" repeatedly in the chorus, while a guitar is plucked. It's a very slow, mellow song...it reminds me of summer. I'm guessing it's from the 70s by the way it sounds, but I really have no idea. I'm pretty sure it has been used in one or more movies before.

MEXICO CITY – A new swine flu strain that has killed as many as 68 people and sickened more than 1,000 across Mexico has "pandemic potential," the World Health Organization chief said Saturday, and it may be too late to contain the sudden outbreak. The disease has already reached Texas and California, and with 24 new suspected cases reported Saturday in Mexico City alone, schools were closed and all public events suspended in the capital until further notice — including more than 500 concerts and other gatherings in the metropolis of 20 million. A hot line fielded 2,366 calls in its first hours from frightened city residents who suspected they might have the disease. …

I sat quietly, eyes locked on the traffic light. When it turned green, I laid a major patch of rubber and caught second gear. Next red light, I'm in the turning lane, he pulls up next to me, salutes, grins and says "all stock?" I said (a bit amused) "yeah". Warm enough to wear shorts but cool enough to not break a sweat when doing activities outside. It really is a breath of fresh air after this past week of gray and rain, and after last night's events. I took the opportunity to put my stereo back in the car, finish cleaning the front passenger seat, and cleaning the engine bay a bit. Crap battery be damned, I jumped my car and went for a 37 mile drive on the quiet winding back roads with the window open and the stereo on. My goodness, these seats are amazingly comfortable. I never appreciated a…

  69. I’m trying to make this short, but if you’ve seen even my other single posts...humor me. It’s a long time coming. For more pictures of each of my 3 new GM rides, hit the Member’s Rides Showcase HERE. If any of you remember, last year early in the summer after I had just graduated and started working officially, I posted about new car shopping. Driving my beloved ’95 Cadillac Fleetwood at the time, I thought I wanted to make a drastic change and was looking at anything from a Chevy HHR to a Honda Fit to, essentially, what I “really wanted” with another new Malibu like I had chosen for my mother earlier in the year and loved. #1: 2008 Pontiac G6 GT Coupe White Diam…

Going up north where the remaining members of my family live...the once-every-3-month ritual...but will take a day for myself to go up to Canada, or somewhere, to clear my head. Well, I know it will be salmon on Friday night (Good Friday) and a brunch I don't have to pay for on Sunday morning, so not all is lost. Any plans for Easter?

As I've alluded to previously, I recently found myself a second job to give myself more security, financially. Now having a loan payment and feeling obliged to upgrade to full coverage insurance, I can't live off my part-time hours at the Pharmacy, alone. The idea is that one job will cover those new expenses while I have the other for miscellaneous spending and saving. Essentially, I've jumped right in and am now logging 50 hours per week, working 7 days a week. Alot of times, I will work both jobs in one day for starting at 4 am and generally lasting until 5-7 pm. It's mentally draining, especially when I'm not able to get the sleep I need. I just had a day like t…

...giving a $h! anymore. About GM Hell, about the country itself. It all just seems so hoplessly wrong, and determined to become even moreso. The popular "visions" for the future that are bandied about are anathema to me. I'm starting to become very, very, angry. I'm not loving the time we live in at all. And it has almost nothing to do with the economy either. So, what to do?

I rarely ever see commercials, w/ tiVo, but happened to catch some while catching up on last night's South Park... the Kia Soul ad is clever, with the hamsters. The Burger King Squarebutts ad is trippy (with a cameo by Sir Mix-a-Lot and a reworking of his seminal song, 'Baby Got Back')... saw a strange Cheetos ad also.

Stumbled on this: http://conceptrends.com/2009/03/15/green-f...in-south-korea/ I learn something every day. Apparently in Korea, trees don't require space for roots, and there aren't horrific winds at skyscraper heights! Some of the balconies may be ok (and some probably intolerably windy), but I can tell you this - those parks in the spaces that are open all the way through the building aren't going to have a single leaf on the trees. Wind tunnel anyone? The general idea is neat, but overall it seems like the ideas that make it interesting and unique are the most flawed.

We're going on a 4 day visit to my parents' place in Miami. Budget is offering a Solstice for $357.00. Albert really wants a convertible <and I agree>.... the other choice is a Mustang for $341.00 which makes the Pontiac a no-brainer. But how small is the trunk? Can we get two small roll aboards in there?

  83. As the story goes, Esso Oil asked custom car guru George Barris (he of Batmobile, Munster Koach and Drag-u-la fame) to create four custom Oldsmobile Toronado coupes for the 1967 Canadian Expo. The car you see above is dubbed Toronado 67X, and according to the seller on eBay, it is one of the only two cars remaining. The big coupe was originally gold, but time and poor treatment have turned it a lovely shade of something other than gold (well, several lovely shades, actually). Although the auction has just ended, we thought you'd still enjoy a glimpse of what the seller calls the "Project car find of a lifetime" (which might be how long it would take to get it back toget…

  84. In all the talk about GM restructuring and the possibility of bankruptcy, nobody has come up with a solution to GM's true problem; the American public general perception of the company and its products. What do you think it would take for people to believe in GM again? Or more importantly, what do you think it would take to get Americans to believe in other Americans again?

  89. -- -- -- -- -- Let's just suppose you're a 19-year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley, 11-14-65, LZ X-ray, Vietnam. Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8:1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is 1/2 way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a hel…

  90. MOMBASA, Kenya -- U.S. Navy snipers opened fire and killed three pirates holding an American captain at gunpoint, delivering the skipper unharmed and ending a five-day high-seas hostage drama on Easter Sunday. Capt. Richard Phillips was in "imminent danger" of being killed before snipers shot the pirates in an operation authorized by President Barack Obama, Vice Adm. Bill Gortney said. He said the pirates were armed with AK-47s and small-caliber pistols and were pointing the rifles at the captain when the commander of the nearby USS Bainbridge gave the order to open fire. Gortney, the commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, said the White House had given "ve…

Honestly though, its not even the subject matter in this article or whether you care or whatever. This guy is such a foul writer. This is not journalism, this is just someone going off. How many therapists does this asshole have? Whatever he writes about seems to be toxic to read. All he seems to do is have a snit with the pen. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...notes041009.DTL

We saw plenty of these multi-level parking structures during our trip to NYC this past week, and even commented on how their space efficiency would work well in our own cities where giant parking garages dominate the landscape. Perhaps we spoke too soon. Autoblog reader Mel spotted this scene just around the corner from the Jacob Javits Center where the 2009 New York Auto Show is being held. The multi-level steel parking structure evidently failed, sending a Lexus GS sliding down on top of a Land Rover and the front end of an also-raised Honda Accord. The kicker? A 1998 Chrysler Town and Country and older Camry sit just outside the frame unscathed. The Ford Edge that ju…

  97. So I ran out to get some errands done. Here is what happened on the freeway and my understanding of the lanes here in Washington State. Far left lane for passing and those wanting to go a bit faster than the posted limit. Middle lane is for going at least the speed limit. Far right lane is for going speed limit or slower and exiting the freeway. I got onto the freeway, traffic moving below the posted 60 so moved over into the middle lane and ended up behind a lazy person going 10 under the speed limit. Full traffic behind and besides me in the left lane, so just stayed where I was at. The traffic in front of the person clears out so this person could speed up t…
