http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...rticleId=107094 By D. John Booth Date posted: 01-01-3000 You know, there's just no way it's a coincidence. Dave Hill, Chevrolet's chief engineer for the Corvette, can wax engineering all he wants about optimum bore size, combustion efficiency and maximizing fuel economy, but the real reason the new 2006 Corvette Z06's LS7 engine displaces 7.0 liters is that it translates into exactly 427 cubic inches, a magic number in Corvette lore. And while the new engine may not have the reputed 550 horsepower the legendary L88 had (though it was rated at a measly 430 hp to "fool" insurance companies),…

Today I was eating at the dining center with a couple girls and somehow we got on the subject of what cars we drove. One of them said she used to have a Corolla but her parents recently bought her a Chevy Malibu. I assumed it was a '97-'03, but she said it was a 2004 so I thought that was kinda interesting. Then, as we were leaving, I overheard some guy say "No, I don't have the Civic anymore...I have a Cobalt now." I've also seen a ton of G6's around campus. Could GM be attracting a new generation of car buyers?

Does anybody think that GM will try and push these cars out for production sooner than expected? Or have the oil companies bought them off to keep fuelies? In a recent MT or R&T mag there was a GM ad in there that made a notion about hydrogen vehicles then had a "Shell" logo on the bottom of the page also (basically showed GM and Shell as partnering up on the Hydro thing). I remember reading a Popular Mechanics back some years ago about the Autonomy and that GM had set down with Exxon originally about the hydrogen idea and going in on setting up hydrogen stations, Exxon basically said that they weren't interested and didn't think that there would ev…

Looks like it got a speedbump, from 140hp to 144hp. Or is it just the new testing scheme again?

Link (See 1st and 2nd post) It sounds as though the Corvette will be getting a 6.2L V8 "LS3" with ~450HP in '08 and that the Z06 will be getting a supercharged version dubbed LS9 with over 600HP. It seems weird to me that they would drop the LS7 already as it must have been pretty expensive to develop, so maybe the Z06 keeps the LS7 and the "Blue Devil" gets the "LS9".

MARK PHELAN: New Chevy HHR hits home run August 25, 2005 BY MARK PHELAN FREE PRESS COLUMNIST http://www.freep.com/money/autoreviews/phe...825.htm#graphic The 2006 Chevrolet HHR is what the future used to look like, an artist's rendering that blends memory and imagination. From its optional chrome roof rack to the sculpted metal housings for its round afterburner taillights, the HHR reminds me of 1940s and '50s drawings of spaceships and cars of the future. Some skeptics have already dismissed the throwback look of the HHR as Chevy's belated answer to Chrysler's retro-styled PT Cruiser, but the compact wagon is more than that. Both ca…

Found it intersting that the GM Canada web site has a section all about the Nomad. Also, they have a questionaire about possible car buyers, when they are going to buy and what cars they are considering. It has a multiple choice format (you can't type in your choice). One of the choices preset is the Nomad!

Someone help me out on this one. The 2006 Impala's 3.5 V-6 (210 hp) can take E-85 gas, but not the 3.5 in the Malibu, G6. For that matter, why don't all of GM's passenger V-6 and V-8 engines at least have the option of E-85 gas? The station down the street from my office is selling 101 octane E-85 at $1.98 per gallon, as opposed to the $2.79 for low octane unleaded at the same station. GM needs to get out in front of this issue. E-85 gas helps reduce our foreign oil dependency (which multiplies American power in the world), is good for the environment and helps the American farmer. Why doesn't GM at least offer E-85 compatability as an opti…
