Featured Replies

Now I would appreciate no hip-hop sucks mantra in here please. I don't normally care for hip-hop, but some of it is really worth listening too, or otherwise is different enough that I enjoy it.

So if you like hip-hop, what are your favorite artist of said genre?

Fort Minor

ICP

TWiZTiD

NWA

Tech N9ne

Cypress Hill

Bone TNH

Dark Lotus

Diana Ross & The Supremes

Aretha Franklin

Smokey & The Miracles

You mean like that?

Chain of Fools is such a great song. Turn it UP!

Hmmm...

Pretty much anything from the sugar hill gang to a few current ones..(yeah, I listen to everything... :) )

Though I do like a bunch from the early 90s....

Is Motown hip-hop?  Define hip hop.

Wow, this thread answers that question, not to many around here like any hip-hop :P

Hip-hop = Rap

Motown is not hip-hop because Motown is good.

I appreciate alot of rap songs today for their rhythm and beat; they just sound good. However, there's absolutely no art in 95% of what's popular today as there was with Grandmaster Flash, et al. I think Jay-Z's 99 Problems was the last of these I've heard.

No. No can do. Do you like jazz?

Hip-hop? Nah...not my style. It's ok up to a point, but after a while, I need to hear something else.

Rock/alternative is more to my liking.

I'm not really into hip hop, although I can appreciate some Run DMC and NWA's "Straight Outta Compton." The rest...ehh...

"Straight Outta Compton."

Hey, that's where Venus and Serena Williams are from!

You suppose they could turn into rappers after hanging up the racquets?

OK, I do. I have been listening to rap since the 80s. It has been cyclical as far as quality goes. I like a lot of the old school stuff, and some new stuff. Mostly since the 90s though artists rarely interest me more than one song or CD. There are exceptions to that.

I just picked up the new Ice Cube CD and like it very much. Laugh Now Cry Later cracks me up. I only wish that most of the people listening to it would realize the fact that Cube is making fun of the lifestyle he is rapping about, not endorsing it.

99 Problems is a great song.

I like both of Kanye West's albums as well. I wish Method Man would come out with something new. Missy Elliot also gets props for being so unique.
