"Detroit's Seven Deadly Sins"

Featured Replies

As much as I shake my head at the amateurish nature of their Buick LaCrosse CXL review [ see separate C&G thread under Buick ], they are presenting a thought-provoking piece called "Detroit's Seven Deadly Sins." To read it, click here.

that web site is so amateurish and unprofessional, i didn't make it past the first paragraph on that article.

how about a productive article?

detroit-7+ deadly sins, why they can't get back market share

1. CHEAP AND UGLY INTERIORS ALL AROUND, TOO MANY COLUMN SHIFTERS STILL ALSO. BAD INTERIOR STYLING. telescoping wheels please!

2. CONTINUED INSISTENCE ON CRAPPY PUSHROD V6 ENGINES WHEN CLEARLY IT DEGRADES THE PRODUCT. 4 CYLINDER LINES COULD STAND AN UPGRADE. V8'S ARE BECOMING UNDERPOWERED IN MANY MODELS. ALWAYS KEEP WORKING ON NEW ENGINES!

3. BAD EXTERIOR STYLING

4. PRICING ISSUES, MSRP'S TOO HIGH FOR WHAT YOU GET

5. HORRIBLE PACKAGING AND SPACE EFFICIENCY ON MOST MODELS

6. PERCEIVED OR REAL RELIABILITY AND DURABILITY ISSUES

7. CRAPPY DEALERS THAT HAVE HORE$h! CUSTOMER SKILLS AND OLD DECREPIT BUILDINGS. TOO MANY DEALERS

8. DON'T REACT TO OR CREATE ENOUGH NEW MARKET SEGMENTS AND VEHICLE TYPES

9. MODEL CYCLES NOT NEARLY QUICK ENOUGH. RESKINS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

10. NOT ENOUGH NEW GADGETS LIKE NAV, ETC. CRAP STEREOS

11. CHEAP ASS WHEELS, EVEN THE ALUMINUM ONES

12. SLOPPY HANDLING AND DEAD STEERING OR POOR RIDE OR BOTH.

13. BASIC BAD DECISION MAKING ALL AROUND (NO 6 CYLINDER IN COLORADO FOR EXAMPLE, OR THE UPLANDER DEBACLE).

14. BEHIND IN SAFETY, AIRBAGS, STABILITY CONTROL NOT HERE YET ON MOST MODELS!

15. INCOMPETENT PR STAFF, CAN'T GET THE PUBLIC to LIKE GM AND HATE TOYOTA

16. NEED TO HAVE MODELS ABLE TO BE SOLD IN ANY COUNTRY SO WE CAN GET WHATEVER IS POPULAR AT THE MOMENT (I.E. FUEL EFFICENT CARS) HERE ASAP TO BATTLE MORE AGGRESSIVE COMPETITORS (FIT, ETC.)

there's a useful list for your RETURN TO GREATNESS

agree with your "Uplander debacle" comment. The resources being consumed to build this perennial also ran, lackluster van could be better spent to make the Lambdas sparkle, or to polish the Cobalt to into a sparkling jewel, or any one of a myriad of uses. ditto the Colorado not having a six, or even the 4800 '8. (i tried not using your post as a quote, and to just post my comment, but there is the whole thing of yours)

The list in ALL CAPS, looks 'amatuerish' to me.

#1 reason is that most of the managers at Big 3 are there just for the $$, and got the job through 'connections'.

Do not care at all about customers, products, or market. Just want to make enough to get a 'golden parachute'.

i was doing CAD at work and didn't feel like shutting my caps off....so there
