will the larger atlas 4 and 5 cyliders mean a larger 6, more to about 4.4L? and would this make closer to the tune of 310hp and roughly 290ft-lbs? factoring DI in, would this make the base v-8 ( 4.8L ) not needed at all?

other than the silverado and other gmt 900's, any other possibilities of this engine configuration?

any insider have any info along these lines?

Why is BMW the only car manufacturer to "get it" about inline sixes?

GM should drop the I6 into a few Zetas as the standard motor...

too bad the thing is so damn tall.

If they would have designed it to go in slanted like the Bimmers that wouldn't be much of a problem now would it. But NO we want to make it stick straight up and down. :duh:

Which reminds me... WTF not make a modern Mopar Slant Six?

DCX?

Inline six cylinder engines make for a large problem when it comes to frontal crashes. The longer engine takes up space that should be used for a crumple zone. Instead, this large lump of iron (or aluminum) can be forced back into the passenger compartment.

DaimlerChrysler wouldn't spend the money to produce a "slant six" when the more manageable V6 engines will do. Especially since Mercedes-Benz dropped their inline six engines in favor of V6s years ago.

Toyota dropped their excellent inline-six due to packaging problems. Mercedes-Benz did the same. There have been rumors of years (15 or so) that even BMW has been looking into V6s.

I wouldn't mind seeing a larger Atlas I6 to match the increased displacements of the I4 and I5, although I wouldn't mind seeing displacement moved up to...oh about 4.9L
