How Ghosn Might Fix GM

im still not buying into this whole thing. any change really wouldnt be evident until at least 3 years. i dont know if thats conservative or not.

the best thing he got going for him is if the smaller euro cars made their way here.

nonetheless it seems overly complex and just unnecessary. maybe if this were 10/15 years ago talks like this might have made some more sense.

the clio seems like a neat little car though. probably do real well here.

Its like I've said once before, I don't see where any partnership is going to bring major advancements to GM. Now with Carlos running the show its like Krinkle said, three years before we see anything happen. How about we tell Kirk and York to go and screw a rough 2x4 and wait to see what is REALLY going to happen with GM instead of throwing a 3 year old-esque temper tantrum becuase what you got isn't exactly what you wanted it to be and things are happening just like you want them to.

GM already has amazing, small cars that do well overseas in what Opel and

Vauxhall sell. GM does not need small Renaults as much as Renault needs access to GM's dealer network.

Why is this guy chastising GM for bringing out the Tahoe in this market? Although he throws GM a bone by adding that these products were planned three years ago, the real fact is GM owns the large SUV market and pundits would be trashing GM two years from now when other makes had overtaken the aging Tahoe: damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I just don't think GM needs this kind of diverson of resources and energy when things seem to be bottoming out. What is K really up to? I am becoming increasingly wary of his true motives.

To me, he seems to be throwing a tantrum because the company just isn't willing to bend over and take it from him and his lackey.

That's true, but he's already got plenty of money so its not like things are going to absolutely kill him if he loses a little right now.

I saw this in a BMW magazine ad the other day and I think it applies to GM as well:

“The ability to say no to compromise is a rare thing these days. Many companies would like to be able to say it, but so few have the autonomy to actually do it.

As an independent company, BMW can say no. No, we will not compromise our

ideas. No, we will not do it the way everyone else does it. No, we will not

factor designs down to the lowest common denominator. No, we will not sell out

to a parent company who will meddle in our affairs and ask us to subject our

cars to mass market vanilla-ism.

By maintaining our autonomy and ability to say no, we can make sure

great ideas live on to become ultimate driving machines.”

I don't want more Renaults stinking up our streets. The forty-two Alliances left are enough.

exactly no one needs them and all these hints/speculations are nothing new or groundbreaking. it wont speed up "progress" any faster and if anything would only be a hinderance.

somethings el stinko in this deal. im thinking along the lines of greed, shock or massive ego stroke/glorification.

hey, at lest theyre gonna explore it. some good can come out of it.

Thinking about it, a GM-Renault alliance would get us nowhere. (I used to think it wouldn't be so bad.) The only plus side would be that GM could dip into the Infiniti rear-drive platform bin and get a few cars for Pontiac, Buick, and Chevy.

Improving + Improving = Improving for a longer period of time. Kirk should shove his old, wrinkly lips up his ass and shut up his old rusty trap. If he wants GM to make progress, his way is not the way to go.

Maybe Ghosen should mentor Wagoner and show him a few ropes. That sounds better.
