I'm leaving for the great state of Texas early Thursday morning....I'll be leaving my house around 1:30AM for a 5:40AM flight out of JFK . I'll be flying Continental from JFK-IAH-SAT and back. I'm a little worried about my luggage, especially with only a 38min stop in IAH on the way there, so I may try carrying my one suitcase on. My hotel's in San Antonio, but I plan on driving to Corpus Christi, Del Rio, and a couple other places in addition to what's in SA.

Good idea. Remember, the carry on is to be no bigger than 22x14x9 to get it on there safely. The only schmucks that have ever fought with me about carry-ons are Lufthansa...our strict German friends. Talk about stereotyping.

Also, please report on the Texas coast at Corpus and thereabouts. Is it nice? I've always wanted to go there, especially South Padre...when the college age folks AREN'T around! I like it Q-U-I-E-T.

Also, could you please check out the landscaping at the McDonald's on the corner of 32nd and Cactus Ave in Corpus and get back to me? Thanks.

Have fun, z!

San Antonio is great, the Alamo is awesome and the "RiverWalk" is fantastic. If you're up for having a brew, go to a restaurant/bar called "Dicks" it's right on the River Walk. That place is awesome they are total.....dicks to you there!

Then if you drive to Corpus, go to South Padre Island and go to the RE/MAX building right on the island (it's a big building off of the highway that has RE/MAX on the roof) and see if a woman Carrie Perry is there. She's the ex MILF that use to post here on C&G that was my woman :)

Enjoy Z...let us know how it went!

Hmmm... interesting. I would actaully rate Lufthansa the BEST & most

hassle free airline I ever flew with. British Air is not bad either but not

as awsome as Lufthansa.

I think Eastern might be the worst... or maybe American|Airlines. :scratchchin:

WTH is O.B. talkin' about?

While here in good 'ol SA you need to go see our big Toyota plant!!! HAHAHAHA!!! j/k... You should however get a Margarita at Tomatillos and have dinner at Pico De Gallo. Be sure to visit the King William area for old homes and never forget the newly renovated Tower of the Americas. Opened in 1968 for Hemisfair, the tower recieved a facelift by Landry's restraunts and reopended on June 22nd, 2006. The views are amazing and you'll see historic photos of what the town looked like way back in the 1800's on up.

Should you need anything to do in Corpus, go see the Lexington aircraft carier. It is a bit steep but a hulking mass of America that is well worth it. Admission about $12. There are also bay and deep sea fishing trips for under $100 bucks.

Other than that... Corpus is the home and birthplace of Whataburger food chains.

While in Del Rio, go see Amistad dam/lake. There is a house boat group out on the lake that will rent you a furnished house boat complete with linens and beverages for overnight stays. They are really nice with slides off of the upper deck and the best part is the views of the lake itself at dusk.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!!

Beinvenidos San Antonio!

Sixty4, I was just giving trinacriaroberto some $h!e for asking z to take time out of his vacation to run an errand for him. He got the joke, I think. :AH-HA_wink:

Isn't Farrah Fawcett a Corpus Christi native?

Bob:

Continental's policy, according to their website, is that the luggage must be such that length + width + height must be no greater than 51", and it must weigh less than 40lbs. I just zipped it up for the last time, and it's L+W+H is exactly 51", and it weighs in at 31lbs according to my bathroom scale. I'll give it a shot, unless they're super anal-retentive I don't see why they wouldn't oblige.

ocnblu:

I actually looked, and there doesn't seem to be a McD's on 32nd and Cactus. Would you settle for the one on S. Padre Island Drive? J/k....we all know you're a wise guy.

SS:

I plan on seeing that Toyota plant, and farting in it's general direction.

Thanks for the well wishes and advice, everyone. I'm about to sign off for a week, since I won't have internet.

:CG_all:

Bon Voyagee, kind sir!

Dude....that Whataburger just brought back some sick....sick memories. I may have to hop a plane down to Corpus to bang the MILF one last time!

The only foreign ones I've been on---

Lufthansa ... never fails to take my carry on away from me. It meets the carry-on standards. I might have an extra sweater or towel stuffed in there that adds an inch or so. It fights into the overheads perfectly. That's why I don't like them and they are militant about it.

Alitalia...well it's just a riot of sorts. It's a flying Italian restaurant with a lot of theatrical people on board. It's the most entertaining of the foreign carriers. They've gotten better and more punctual...remember, according to a joke, A.L.I.T.A.L.I.A. means "Always Late in Take-off, Always Late in Arrival."

Air France...actually very good. Not snobbish, as one might imagine. Professional yet relaxed, punctual and the food is also very good.

Aerolineas Argentinas...loved them. They are the nicest of any flight crew with great personalities. It seems like they enjoy their jobs. They can run late, but not on any of my flights.

Iberia of Spain...I thought they would be nice, but they were clinical and bland. They weren't bad...it's just that they weren't good, either.

Domestically, I've gotten the best service from Delta, followed by United. Very little experience with the other coast-to-coast carriers.

Well, despite Continental's objections to maintaining their fleet and flying on time, I made it back safe and sound at just after the stroke of midnight last night. Pics and a full recount are coming when I finish getting everything back in order, plus some huge news not related to my trip (hint: check the Members' Rides Showcase section )

Glad to hear you made it back safely z... anxiously awaiting to see the news in the members' rides section :)
