Vanishing Point

Featured Replies

Has anyone else seen the original Vanishing Point. I just watched it last night and it was great. Good car chase as well. Motor Trend ruined the movie for me though. They explained the 2 bulldozers so I knew the meaning in the first part of the movie. The car that was crashed into the bulldozers was actually a 67 Camaro. Motor Trend explained it because you can see the upside down Camaro badge when the townspeople are examining the wreckage. I didn't see the badge but I saw the body and windowline and I knew it was a Camaro. This was a good car chase movie. Anyone else seen it or seen any other good car chase movies? My favourite car chase is in Bulitt.

I just saw the Blues Brothers not to long ago as well. I loved it. It is actually my favourite movie but my favourite car chase is in Bulitt. I love it when they are driving through the mall and they crash into an Oldsmobile dealer and Dan Akroyd says, " The new Oldsmobiles are in early". Then there is the ex chasing them around in a red Grand Prix with Rocket Launchers, explosives, flamethrower. The Nazi group ends up chasing after them as well as the police, and the country people. I didn't watch the ending so I didn't see the final chase. It is hilarious when they are talking to the nun and cursing.

I love that movie.. first saw it about 25 years ago as a kid... ever since seeing that, I've had a thing for white '70 Challengers... saw it and Duel (with a red '70 Valiant) at about the same time, both classic car chase films..

I've built up a little collection of my favorite car-chase/racing films on DVD.. Vanishing Point, Duel (VHS, haven't seen it offered on DVD), Ronin, Transporter, Bullitt, LeMans, The French Connection, The Seven Ups, To Live and Die in LA, The Driver, Blues Brothers..

I'll have to get Grand Prix..it's now out on DVD.

Haven't seen Vanishung Point for years, would love to see it again.

Some others from that era:

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot

Slither

I just saw a remake of Vanishing Point I think I liked better. Still I only saw the original for the first time this past winter.

Whats the movie where Ryan O'Neils character is hired as a get away driver for a bunch of bank robbers ? That had one awsome parking garage scene as I recall. The first action car movie I saw as a kid.

The Bond movie with the AMC Hornet landing the sprial twist river jump was the most jaw dropping stunt I've ever scene.

Only seen stills of the Hornet 'corkscrew jump' but I agree: amazing.

I enjoyed both Vanishing Point movies, as well as Bullitt, which I'll catch the chase scene whenever its on. Like Dual as well, tho I wish the car was at least interesting.

I believe the Ryan O'Neal movie is The Driver, in fact. Never saw it.

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry is another good car chase movie. I also like The Car, tho I wouldn't neccessarily call it 'good'. Opening chase scene in Jeepers Creepers has some nice vintage iron in it.

Duel is out on DVD...I actually just saw a copy of it at and FYE last week 8)

What about the original Gone in 60 Seconds; I thought that was pretty cool. A relatively low-budget film for the time with crazy chase scenes (the police car T-boning a row of brand new Eldorados at a Cadillac dealership and crushing the first three or four together was unbelievable!) and some interesting cameos from people from the racing scene (At one point the main character steals J.C. Agajanian's Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow from the VIP parking at Ascot Park; another night he steals Parnelli Jones's Olympia Beer Ford Bronco). Also the movie had a pretty interesting list of cars that needed to be stolen; when was the last time you saw a 1930 Hudson Great Eight, anyways?

You beat me to it Xp... I own a DVD of the originla G.I.60sec.

I think Vanishing Point is a great movie but DUEL is cooler.

Anyone ever notice how the gas station attendant spills

about 2 gallons over the rear quarter panel & rear window

of thatr Valiant before he tells him he needs a radiator hose?

"Where have I heard that before?!" :P

As far as 1970s goes the cheesiest car mivie ever was

DEATH RACE 2000, although a decade later Dice would

surpass the cheesy factor with FORD FAIRLANE. That

was complete waste of human effort... I own it but only

to make fun of it when I'm not sober.

Hey, what movie is it where the kid drives his brother's

stolen 1958? DeSoto FireSweep ragtop? That car was

HOT & the chick he's trying to impress is not bad either.

Any of you guys ever see Hollywood nights . No chase scene but its a pretty funny car movie. With a lot of nice stuff in it. A good chase movie is the original Cannonball (not cannonball run) with David Carridene driving a red 72 Trans-Am lots of crashes and crazy stuff in there.
