2008 VW Tiguan Design Study

Tiguan, not Marrakesh, is the name of the VW's X3 Competitor

Posted Image

Volkswagen released a design sketch this am, which indicates how the upcoming VW Tiguan will look in the dreams of a designer. In person, of course the tires' profile will be higher, the stance will be narrower, and the proportions will be less sci-fi. Other than that, it'll look exactly the same -- when it's introduced in concept form, reportedly later this year.

And a little info on the new name:

Looks like Volkswagen's leanings toward badging its new models for the world's nomatic tribesmen are over (sorry Chiefs of the Penan). Rather than pay an identity agency to come up with a name for its upcoming Golf-based SUV, the company asked readers of Germany's AutoBild to come up with a name. The winner? It's Tiguan, a mashup of tiger and leguan (German for iguana).

Stories from Jalopnik.com

These retarded names have to stop.

Tuareg, Phaeton, Tigwat or whatever... <_<

Seriously they sound more lame than some retarded

Japanese market only toy. That's waht they should

name this "car with truck tires":

"Happy Time Sunshine Big Toy Forest Hopper"

Marrakech was the code name. Previous leading candidate was Beduin, far less obscure than any of the choices offered AutoBild readers.

It has already been introduced in concept form as the Concept-A.

VW came up with a long list of names internally, which were cut down to half a dozen to be voted on by AutoBild readers.

I say all VW cars should start with "R" & all "SUVs" with a "T".

Raccoon

Ralph

Tuareg

Tiguan, eh? Marakkech would have been good and gone well with Touareg...

or how about Fateh, Hezbollah, or Hamas? :)

I wonder if they'll do a special O.L. "Osama Llama" edition with real Llama hide seats, and a chip in the dash's screen that'll get you your al-Jazeera, anytime, all the time.

Sketch looks great, though... more interesting and dynamic than the Freelander.

And do not forger the best "T" name...

THING

How the heck could I forget the very first Crossover...

10% Russian Military vehicle (styling)

50% pre-fab shed

40% VW Beetle

Still better looking than the Element & Ridgeline!

I guess I can atleast give them credit for still using names rather than yet another letter predictably followed by a number or 2 or 3.
