July 22, 200619 yr My sister was Im-ing me and told me that the saturns transmission is completely distroyed! How much does a new one cost? HOPEFULLY it goes to car heaven
July 22, 200619 yr I would try to find a used transmission out of a salvage yard if it were me, if you want to keep it. You're talking about the '98 in your sig?

July 22, 200619 yr Author I saw an ad in the paper for a new 06 nissan altima for $188 a month with 0 down. its a lease and my mom likes that car
July 22, 200619 yr well, if you're a DIY'er (which since it sounds like you'd rather not have the car anymore, you probably wouldn't be willing to be), you could probably buy a used tranny for a couple hundred, and since the Saturn engine & tranny are pretty small, the swap isn't too hard. Even if you have a shop do it, you're probably talking $500-1000 to have them put in a used tranny. BTW, often what happens on Saturn trannys is that the differential pin goes out & either grinds the gears up to bits, or shoots a hole through the tranny housing. This usually only happens with a fair amount of burnouts & such, though. The trannys hold up reasonably well under normal use.
July 22, 200619 yr Saturns hold up well to abuse...and unless it has a crazy amount of miles on it, It'd would be worth the trans...
July 22, 200619 yr Damnit I thought this was going to be about how Saturn as a brand was going to be snuffed out and it's dealer network will sell new Oldsmobiles as of 2007. *sigh* one can always hope & pray. O.B. she probably was not drag racing it but like so many other girls she probably felt it slipping for weeks so she pulled into autozone bought trans fluid and poured it down the windshield washer fluid reservoir after noticing the oil dipstick was dry as the Arizona sand. Girl logic when it comes to cars.
July 22, 200619 yr Author Um actually its used to go about 2 miles back and fourth everyday to work...its never seen a highway and it has 30k miles on it.

July 23, 200619 yr the transmisson will be about 300-700 and what ever the shops labor cost is tagged on top. do i here some Neutral Slamage! God I love doing that. if it just slips and you need a quick fix if you add saw dust to it it will stop slipping so you can drive it a couple miles like to the junkyard. But its best to call a tow truck. there like 20 buccks and they might be able to fix the part that went out inside the trans. Normaly its the 75 cent pice that pervents the car from running.
