July 30, 200619 yr Complete article at GMTruckBlog.com According to the order guide, the Tahoe Police Vehicle will only be available as a 2WD unit, powered by GM's 5.3L V8. Equipped with active-fuel management, E85 capability, and coupled through the 4L60-E automatic, this engine (code LMG) is identical in performance (320 hp, 340 lb-ft. torque) to the 5.3L available to the public. Additionally, while GM's write up of the "Z56 Suspension" on the Police Tahoe cites it as being "police duty", comparison of it's specifications show no change in sway bar and shock absorber diameters from a standard 2WD Tahoe. As this is still preliminary information, this is not yet certain. Click the link at the top of the page for more pics/info.
July 31, 200619 yr I printed out the spec sheet & pic from a GM ordering guide a few months ago, and it listed both a 2wd and 4wd model (the 2wd getting a higher top speed, as before). The Z56 suspension has always been a bit tightened up and strengthened over stock too, so that's a given. Besides that, anyone else notice what I do...the poor fitmet of the hood to front fascia. I'd say it's just a one off thing, but out of all the new ones I've seen on the road and at the dealer, about 30% of them are this way, or have something else misaligned. REALLY noticeable in a side by side dealer lot comparo, as my father was first to point out when he and my mother stopped to look at some. Not nearly as bad as the typical low hanging and/or crooked front bumpers on every '00-06 model ever made, but still not good...and I never did pinpoint whether it seemed to be more of a Arlington or Janesville plant issue mainly.
July 31, 200619 yr The bumper's all scuffed up already. 173574 Yeah, white bumpers don't work well on a police vehicle..they need some custom rectangular, flat diamond-tread black bumpers..something solid for smashing into things..
July 31, 200619 yr It really needs a rubber strip on the side. 173827 It will say Some-where-ville Police on the side.
July 31, 200619 yr (very) rough chop adding side decals for the county police where I live (broome) I couldn't find an LED light bar or any good spot lights though... I might take a stab at a NYS tropper next.
