Frail-Rated: Over 800K Jeep Liberties Recalled

Posted Image

WASHINGTON - Chrysler Group is recalling more than 800,000 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicles because of the potential loss of steering control, the automaker said Tuesday.

DaimlerChrysler AG spokesman Max Gates said the front suspension lower ball joint could experience excessive wear and looseness, leading the ball joint to separate. The recall affects 832,000 Liberty SUVs from the 2002-2006 model years.

If I remember correctly, the Jeep GCs and Durangos had this same problem a few years ago..

From what I heard, Rams are hard on balljoints too.

If one wanted to, one could make that into quite the disgusting statement. Wouldn't be difficult, either...

Please don't hold back.

I've noticed that most DCX trucks aren't too kind to suspension parts period and ball joints especially.

There was a recall a few years ago IIRC on Dakotas and Durangos where the ball joints could fail and the wheels could fall off..

In the media?

Are you kidding?

After the 300, Chrysler seems almost as immune to the media's propaganda as Toyota.

Me likey!

Hopefully though, Chrysler will have this all straightened out on future trucks and SUV's, and that they produce more ATTRACTIVE mass-produced automobiles.

You know, maybe Americans should buy as much DCX stock as possible, and then eventually yank control away from Stuttgart and Deutsche Bank.

Actually, Saudi Arabia is the largest share holder after DB. Instead of Dr. Z, they could just as well have advertised "Quality is our jihad"! 8)

Holy tierod ends, Batman, the one time when I am not trying to ram a double entendre into an otherwise completely innocent conversation, you guys jump on it like a bicycle with no seat and riiiide. :nono: :AH-HA_wink:

Speaking of this problem, I've had to sell the first set of lower ball joints for a Liberty today to one of our shops. Customer wasn't happy at all, its only got about 26,000 miles on it.
