How do/did you decorate your dorm?

I'm thinking about making a bunch of Photoshops and throwing them up on my walls when I get there in late September.

Cars I'm thinking of for the walls:

• Probably some others

Girls I'm thinking of for the walls:

While it's not a dorm room, I put records on my ceiling :-P

They look pretty cool

I don't have a dorm (yet; that's in the near future), but go find some metal posters and a nice clock.

For example:

(Now, you may not play guitar, but c'mon. The rusted edges on that look sweet.)

I have a clock like this with distressed paint.

And they last longer than paper ones, too.

Regular 8.5" x 11" photo paper and print it "landscape" style.

I put a poster of the Dodge Charger R/T on my door the first week when I was in residence. Two days later... someone took the liberty of grabbing my next door dormmates felt marker and scribbling:

"American Gas Guzzling Decadence"

I come back from class to find some of my neighbours wondering who the hell did this. I know it wasn't anyone on my floor, because we all talked cars.

The university is packed with liberal, hippie types who can't seem to mind their own business when I'm driving my truck or make some capitalist remark.

Sadly, we never found out who it was.

Most dorm rooms don't have much space on the walls for decorations. Mine had a big wooden bar going all around the outside with lamps and cabinets and such mounted to it. Really the only place for posters was up near the ceiling and ON the ceiling.

Hey, in order make your posters a little more neat, could I suggest a few fonts?

Dodge Typeface

To install (Windows XP users):

1. Download the .zip file.

2. Open the Control Panel.

3. Click on Apperance & Themes.

4. Click on See Also: Fonts.

5. Extract the .zip file.

6. Drag and drop the font file (not the readme) into the Fonts folder.

7. Enjoy the font.

I think I'm gonna bring a Z06 and regular Corvette poster and that'll be it. The regular Vette poster is huge, like 24x30 or so and the Z06 is probably 20 x 20.

I had a similar argument with a dude in my dorm making a similar argument as ocn. I'd make points, but he'd always say "I'm a dude, it's what we do"...

If a girl can't agree with me having pictures of beautiful, famous women on my wall, that's her problem, IMO. They're not showing any nudity, though some are close, and the one of Christina Aguilera is simply getting thrown up there because it's pure badass. Besides, I don't care if girls have pictures of guys on their walls. So, I guess it's just their prerogative.

The women I spend time with are well aware of my high standards...and therefore the fact that *I* find them attractive and want to spend time with *them* and as an extension lump them into the same category as the pin-ups...it makes them feel very special. At least that's what one of them told me the other day.

I had my model cars and trucks on the bookshelves. I had a couple of airplane posters on the walls (aerospace engineer). Other than that, I really didn't have that much decorating my dorm room. Other than the TV, Sega Genesis, 1st Gen Nintendo (I kept things old school), and the computer and the phone. There was also the microwave (since our dorm was weird and didn't allow anything else).

I had nothing, just easier that way. No matter how many posters or how much $h! you have, it still isn't "your" place so I didn't see the point.

That's one reason I didn't have a whole lot. I just had enough to make me feel comfortable in there. A few of my friends in my dorm had just gobs and gobs of stuff on the walls that just seemed un-needed.

Dude I know nothing about Kettering...hopefully it isn't deferred. Rush should be soon after you move in, but you'll know when rush is.

I think deferred Rush is a good policy, most people who pledge during orientation are tricked into doing it.

Man you should've seen my freshman dorm room. Quitely literally a 8x10 single room. We all joked that it must've been a converted broom closet....which is even funnier when you consider I came out 1.5 years later. Do you have a roomie?

Not to get all parental on you either, but don't go too crazy once you get there.

My freshman year there were 2 guys across the hall. Tony and Kevin. The *first weekend* at college. Tony drank so much vodka he fell out of the top bunk and split his head wide open. Blood everywhere. Went out of the dorm on a stretcher yelling all this drunken stupidness. By mid year he'd had a few other mishaps and a run in or two with the police and he was expelled. Last I heard he had stocking or security night job at an Old Navy or something.

Kevin drank a lot, made it through school with some run ins. Was a really intelligent guy and had a great job right out of school. Unfortunately he was driving drunk several months ago and wrapped his car around a tree. He and his friend in the front seat were killed immediately.

So yea....don't let all that new found freedom make you go crazy. Heh oh an 'blu is right about all the girlie posters.

Ohh, yes, I know, Chris. For one, I don't drink and don't plan on being a heavy drinker. What's that? You say that I'm a young, inexperienced teen who can be easily influenced? I'll PM you about that one right when I'm done posting this. :AH-HA_wink:

Second, I'm not going to go "crazy" when I get there. I'm going to act normal, get to know some people, and do everything I can without sitting around being a dud. However, I'm primarily there for school and I know that. I think I'll do fine.. I've got more confidence in myself than anybody else. Everybody (not saying you, but in general) underestimates myself and the choices I'll make. Once again, this'll be covered in the PM I talked of in the first paragraph.

And, yes, I'll have a roommate to a certain extent. It's weird, but cool.. my room is connected to just one of my neighbor's via a door (which is lockable from both sides) in that wall. So, if we like each other, we can keep it open/unlocked. If we want some privacy, we can lock it for the night. And if we just don't like each other, it'll be locked on both sides. It works out.

'blu, if I wake up next to the wrong person, I'll just make a prayer that I didn't contract any bugs or STDs. And if it's a guy, I'll have to kick his ass.
