Dodge Challenger Concept Design

In January 2006, Dodge introduced the Challenger Concept at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. The design drawed heavily from the 1970 - 1974 models. From different sources, here are some sketches and photos of the concept version of Dodge's entry into the revived and red-hot Pony Car segment.

This sketch was done before Dodge brass decided give the nod to the Challenger concept. Notice the mix of classic Chrysler pony car cues: 1973 Challenger taillamps, Barracuda bumperettes, hi-impact SubLime paint, and the Super Bee graphics.

Some of automotive designer Michael Castiglione's earliest sketches for the Challenger Concept. None of these look like the original car, but, really, is that a bad thing?

This early clay model shows a concept that's pretty different from the actual concept. Notice the classic 1970 Plum Crazy Challenger convertible in the background used as a reference point.

For awhile, Dodge brass wanted the car to be painted Plum Crazy like the 1970 convertible used as a reference point.

The final design sketch dated "4-05." This sketch would eventually be released to the public and press as a teaser.

Interesting. I really like the first sketch, almost looks better than the one we're getting.

However, the design that is coming out is awesome. Yes there are people who think Daimler is recycling ideas, and I agree as well. However, in a sea of derivitive cars, and G35's, the Challenger is a welcome sight.

...Shame it won't be more affordable.

I like the tail and body lines fromt the first sketch a lot more than what we got

So many of their designs (there were others than what you posted) had actual flavor and uhh design to them. Instead, they made a rehash of the 1970 with an almost carbon copy of it.
