In Depth: 2007 Chrysler Aspen

Featured Replies

There's no excuse for the Aspen's shortcomings and there are many. Hiding behind the tired Tahoe=Yukon=Escalade argument fails today because the -900s are simply so damn good by themselves, much less well-differentiated individually.

I don't know....by looking at the exteriors, the Chrysler twins seem to have just as much different as the GM twins:

Hoods, grilles, bumpers, and lights. The 900's front fenders might be considered different because they have a different cutout for the headlights. The 900's are not as differentiated as some of you would like to think.

I also know 4 people that own Durangos......and they love them. No problems with any of them!

People make fun of the Ass-pen because Chrysler can't move Durangos as it is. The Asspen is really just a Durango De lux. We're not making fun of it for platform sharing, we're making fun of it for platform sharing badly on a platform that already has sales issues.

Aspen & Durango have the same grile shape...the 900s do not. A&D also share a hood (Chrysler gets more lines, but it's really the same hood but more stripes) and 900s do not.

I will concede that the Durango/Aspen might actually be as differentiated as Tahoe/Yukon. Look at the fender flares of the Durango/Aspen, and you'll see that most of the sheetmetal is different, except for the doors. My problem with these two is that, like everything else out of most of DCX, they both look like bricks with tacked on cues that represent the division. For the Dodge, it's the big crosshatch grille. For Chrysler, it's droopy headlights, a big eggcrate grille with the wing on the top, and strakes. At least with the GM twins, the division-specific cues flow nicely with the rest of the design.

Well, if you ask me, you should compare the Aspen to the Escalade, seeing as how that is its closest competition. Tahoe - Durango - Expedition vs Escalade - Aspen - Navigator. Course, it is cheaper, alot cheaper... and Chrysler is pretty mediocre with mediocre hopes, so I guess aiming for a GMC fits. :P

Heh... the bigger problem is that I can see more people choosing the Chevrolet Tahoe over the Chrysler Aspen...

I don't see Chrysler even on the radar for potential Cadillac Escalade buyers, regardless of what Chrysler wants the public to believe.

That tells me how bad Chrysler's twins are at the moment.

(Throw in the Aspen has to compete against the JEEP Commander sharing the showroom floor... big failure ahead.)

If anything, the Aspen competes with the Yukon. Chrysler isn't nearly there yet in prestige to play with Cadillac.

Nor is Chrysler trying to compete directly with Cadillac or Lincoln. I would say Chrysler competes with Buick at the most. Their price points support that. I would say the regular Yukon is a fair target, and the Denali version is way more expensive than any Aspen.

9-7X @ least has a console ignition...and Rainier isn't ugly...nor a completely blatant Bravada rebadge.

Ugh. It needs more distinctive exterior styling or at least a better grille, and an all-new interior. Chrysler used to be a styling leader... but not anymore apparently. Look at the hashed together Sebring.

The Rainer is hidious, especially the from the front. The interior is horrible, teh Aspe is certainly better than that. Had the Durango not been refreshed, teh Aspen would look quite a bit different. That being said, I much prefer the Durango, but the Aspen's interior is nicer.

The GMT-900's are better overall (except they don't have folding rear seats, and most are stuck with the damn 4-speed), but the Apsen is spawned off the Durango, which is older anyway. I have no problem with Dodge's latest designs, however teh Sebring and the Aspen leave a lot to be desired (hopefully the convertible will look better).

:withstupid:

This thread got more mileage than a 4.7L Magnum could ever hope to get...

Well... I saw one today at work...

HAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF :puke:

I saw a few in passing... Unlike various Japense offerings, the Aspen does not horribly offend me when I see it.
