Michigan vacation spot in Dec?

Featured Replies

I figured there are enough of you on here that reside in Michigan that perhaps you could suggest some nice places to stay for a week in Dec. I live in Chicago and my wife and family travel to Elk Rapids(just north of Traverse City) each summer. We've never been there in the winter and plan to go this year. However not knowing what the weather will bring, that is a far drive for us and our 1 yr old. Is there another town along Lake Michigan that is good for a week's stay? Looking to do the typical shopping, dining, site-seeing touristy (sp?) type stuff. We don't own snowmobiles or plan on doing too much recreational activities. I'm into Lighthouses, so depending on where we stay I'd like to drive to some if within reasonable distance.

I've been thinking about Holland, Saugatuck, or Ludington. Any pros/cons? Other suggestions? Thanks.

I don't know about the west side of Michigan (but I do know a little about the West Side they talk about on the news haha)... But good call on not travelling up to Traverse City.. I can almost guarantee that it'll be snowing and already have a good amount of snow on the ground, but I could be wrong..

Looks like we settled on Holland. Only about 2.5 hours from Chicago and within 30-40 minutes from other decent towns. Plus there's a lighthouse there I need to photograph. :)

Holland is a fun little town. just last i remeber they are a more expensive city. But have fun! Michigan will enjoy your vist! but your cars suspension wont...
