Lotus to Bring the Exige S Stateside

Posted Image

Finally. Lotus is sending its top-shelf hooch to the US, in the form of a superchargerd Exige S. The company anounced today that the near-supercar Exige is coming to the states in the form of a 220-hp version (a 16-percent lift from the base model). The coupe, which weighs in at 2,077 pounds, can get from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds (nearly a second faster than the base model) and to 100 mph in 11 seconds, under the command of a six-speed tranny. Top speed is 148 mph. The model also gets variable-revs cam switching, by way of its T4e engine control system. For you? $56,990. Operators are standing by.

What, because it has a Toyota engine?

Honestly, the Europa seems better.

WTF are you talking about?

Would you like it all of a sudden if they slammed an ECOTEC in it?

Just because you might not like the styling, or whatever, does not give you the right to assume I like the car cause "it's a Toyota engine"...

I fell in love with this car since I lay my eyes on it, you can ask Ted, he was there... I like it for it's looks, for it's performance, and it is a great alternative to a Porsche boxter, for 58,000 CDN? You can't go wrong...

I was just playing with you on the Toyota thing.

The Europa was the one that was more or less designed for NA launch. That's why I said it was better.

I always liked Lotus, now that I have learned more about their history and the work they did for the Elise chassis and all others before it, I like them even more.

Lotus is all about "when less is more" Tiny little cars that can and always have been able to run laps with the fastest of the larger sportscars. Origionally Lotus made cars that would accept a variety of small engines. That was Colin Chapmans origional intent. So you could place any engine you prefer and you would still have a true Lotus.

With this new 260/260 turbocharged Ecotec, Lotus would most likely be happy to give it a serious look...............but we know what GM would do.........remember the Shelby/Aurora 4.0 act of stupidity ?
