The company sold 1,385 more retail vehicles in September than the year before. Retail truck sales, led by full-size pickups and utilities, were up 2 percent. Retail car sales were down 12 percent, partly due to inventory constraints of Chevrolet Aveo, Cobalt and Malibu. Retail sales of 246,797 vehicles were down 3 percent on a sales day-adjusted basis.

Saab, Cadillac, Hummer, Buick and GMC all saw retail sales increases in September. Saab led the pack with retail sales up a powerful 45 percent, driven by 9-3 and 9-7X. Cadillac sales are up 22 percent retail, with strong showings by DTS, STS, SRX and the entire Escalade lineup. Hummer continued to show very positive results with H3 sales up 19 percent

buick up 4%, too

3183 Auras, a few more sales than the Corvette got. Hopefully they start advertising the thing.

There is no 4 cylinder yet.

I hope Saturn's limited dealer-network doesn't affect the Aura's success too much.

I don't even know where the closest Saturn dealership is to me.

Still haven't seen a single Aura in town, but the Cobalts are everywhere -- except the dealer lots. My dealer has none, and but a few HHRs. I actually don't recall seeing an Aveo on the lot, either. Hmmm. But they did have a nice, black Z06 :-).

So, did GM get caught with their pants down on the small car front (again)?

Bimmer I think your closest dealer is in larchmont, im heading there to test drive an XR soon.

aura sales will at least triple by next month.

i dont get to watch too much tv but the most commercials from gm ive seen lately are for the aura. hummer caddy pontiac after that. in that order.

The Aura is in its second month, I wouldn't be too worried unless its's under 5k units for Oct. It is getting a 4 cyl in non-GL form, too.

I'm guessing GM made quite a bit on trucks this month. It sold as many as last October and the incentives are way less this year.

Geez, for how long will this decline trend keep on going? Can GM afford losing sales every year?

GM was down 6.8% while toyota was up 25%, that is not good! I'd be willing to bet that toyota is taking all those fleet sales that GM doesn't seam to want. toyota will take the globil sales crown anyway they can.

hmmmm,....the numbers are not that bad considering the incentives were not nearly as big as Ford or Chrysler. Cadillac's car lineup will be hugely revitalized when NG CTS debuts, that car couldn't come fast enough. GM has a good plan going forth, they just need the right product to support it.

Should prove anything like this with factual information. Hyundai is dumping into fleets. Also, Toyota's 25% is a percentage, look up the actaul increase in raw numbers and compare to GM.

People think %'s are absolute. If a maker sold 500 last year and now 1000, they can scream "sales up 100%"!

Ok, if I did my math right, Toyota's sales actually fell during Sept. vs August '06. They had 240,178 for Aug. and 222,950 for Sept. That's actually a 7.2% drop in sales vs last month.... right? Whereas GM had a 8.3% drop in sales vs Aug. (338,380 Sept '06, 368,776 Aug. '06)

So Toyota must have had a bad month in Sept '05??

Our local dealer has only 2 Malibus, 1 Aveo, 2 Cobalts and 3 HHRs. No wonder GM isn't doing so hot, the dealers don't even have the cars to sell.

Yeah, Chevy dealer stock in Hayward CA is very heavily tilted towards new Tahoes and Avalanches, with a fair number of classic silverados on the lot...only a handful of the others. I think 1 HHR, 1 Aveo, 2 Cobalts, and I don't remember seeing a malibu at all.

but the worst part a friend of mine wanted a vehicle under 15k... our cheapest new vehicle in inventory at the time was a 18k cobalt... we didnt have any aveos... and we have to tell customers to come back later... now we have 1 aveo... about 3 cobalts, a malibu a bunch of hhrs... but being the 2nd largest dealership in the western united states... we ought to have an impressive selection of cars!
