October 24, 200619 yr MB GL450: Motor Trend 2007 SUV of the Year LOS ANGELES, CA (October 24, 2007) -- Motor Trend, the world's automotive authority and part of PRIMEDIA's (NYSE:PRM) Consumer Automotive Group, today announced that the Mercedes-Benz GL450 is Motor Trend's 2007 Sport/Utility of the Year. The GL was selected from a field of 22 vehicles--the largest crop of sport/utilities Motor Trend had ever evaluated. Angus MacKenzie, editor in chief of Motor Trend, noted that this year's field was especially strong. "The GL may be a surprise winner for many people," said MacKenzie. "The first full-size sport/utility from Mercedes is not cheap, but it has astonishing technology. It offers a seven-speed automatic transmission and a V-8 engine with 335 horsepower, and it will be available in a version that runs on the new low-sulfur diesel fuel for greater gas mileage. Comfortable, third-row seating has become one of the most important measures for sport/utilities, and the GL's is the best." October 24, 200619 yr Let's consider the GM vehicles that this went up against: Chevrolet Tahoe Chevrolet Suburban GMC Yukon GMC Yukon XL Cadillac Escalade Cadillac Escalade ESV Hm, is that it? The Lambdas are all 2008, correct? Also, I did not include the Avalanche or Escalade EXT as they would foremost be considered pick-up trucks.
October 24, 200619 yr No, the Acadia and Outlook are 2007s, but it's possible they weren't available for testing.
October 24, 200619 yr CotY needs to be the Continental Flying Spur so no one can afford either. 208259 And truck Escalade EXT so no one can afford any of them.
October 24, 200619 yr No, the Acadia and Outlook are 2007s, but it's possible they weren't available for testing. 208253 The blurb on the Saturn site says "available early 2007" so I figured it'd be released as a 2008 model...
October 24, 200619 yr ....astonishing technology. It offers a seven-speed automatic transmission and a V-8 engine with 335 horsepower, and it will be available in a version that runs on the new low-sulfur diesel fuel for greater gas mileage. Is a 7-spd auto and 335 HP examples of "astonishing technology"? Cause they aren't. The mercedes doesn't even come close to one of it's competitor's 403 HP; get on the stick, DCX.And what diesels cannot run on the new low-sulfer fuel; I have yet to see any stations installing a 2nd set of diesel pumps and it went on sale last Sunday. Is this also supposed to be more "astonishing technology"? I hear sucky-sucky sounds....
October 25, 200619 yr Well, I think Motor Trend has gone in the pooper ever since peterson sold it. The real reason why they got rid of Domestic and Foregin car of the year was so that they didn't have to devote a whole cover and main article to domestic cars any more.
October 25, 200619 yr the car mags have all sold out. its gotta be furrin and 70k to get anything these days. they don't even do many road tests on real people cars anymore.
