I have a coworker and my boss, both were troubled by Cavaliers and swear that they won't get another American car. How would it be possible to talk them back into a domestic? My co-worker has a '94 Cavalier (looks like a VL sedan) that dies often on her, and has now primarily drives a Mazda3. My boss has a '98 Cavalier Z24. Both of them are very unhappy about the reliability of the cars. What's worse, my boss was actually talked away from the Cobalt by her neighbour, who appears to work at GM.

I've seen this case alot, too. And usually the same suspects as well: J-bodies.

Tell them to simply test drive a new GM, no matter the level of vehicle (Cobalt, STS, Acadia.. something). They'll see the difference if they give in to just a little bit of their time to test them.

get them into something other than a j-body?

if a new Cobalt is the price range they are looking in, what about low mileage CPO Lacrosses, Impalas, G6s?

dart: I do agree... to certain extent. I still tell people who are looking for used cars to avoid them like the plague, especially used rentals.

...Maybe... but is it really GM's fault? These people likely bought the J-Bodies on price, and for the amount you pay for a J-Body, what do you expect?

There are plenty of Cavaliers and Sunfire's still ticking, so the powertrain itself is very good, even Consumer Reports admitted that.

A low-mileage used car is usually fine, especially with the balance of factory warranty and GMPP options.

Try this: "If you don't test drive most of the cars in your price range, how can you possibly make an informed decision and not make the same mistake again?"

....car show? or test drive something else they think they'd never buy... Hyundai, Kia, Hummer?

Tell them to wait another 10 years, theres a big turnaround comming, soon, someday, anytime now.

Had they owned an old C/H, G or W body that was Buick powered they would feel differently. But even then they would be disappointed today for the most part. Cobalt may be worth a try, you could tell them the Cobalt has been givin great reviews and how the SS/SC has even done well racing, near showroom stock against Acura TSX, Mazda, and BMW 3 series. These are at least true items you could mention.

Well, the one with the Mazda3 might be impossible to do anything about... since it spanks the Cobalt, as far as that goes.

But otherwise, I agree with Drew. If that, or anything else you've tried, doesnt work...
