Toyota's Continued Growth: 2 More Plants in N.A.

Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) will build two assembly plants in North America, Japan's Mainichi newspaper reported on Saturday.

Toyota is considering building a plant in northern part of Midwest to assemble Yaris compact cars which are selling well, the Japanese daily said.

The plant, with the annual production capacity of 200,000 units, was expected to be operational in 2009, it said.

Toyota will also build another plant in North America to start producing sport utility vehicles around 2010, it said.

I characterize a Yaris assembly plant in the United States as violating the Invasive Species Act. I'll notify the Department of the Interior forthwith.

Interesting..does Toyota build any SUVs in the US currently? The Sequoia maybe?

Yes and that's the only one. Aside from the Canadian RXs, none of the other SUVs are made in North America.

I thought the Highlander was produced in North America. I think Toyota is planning to release a sub-Rav4 and RX and will need the capacity.
