November 16, 200619 yr Report: Toyota Recalls About 54,000 Cars Thursday November 16, 7:00 am ET Report: Toyota Recalls About 54,000 Passenger Cars Because of Engine Problems TOKYO (AP) -- Toyota Motor Corp. has recalled about 54,000 passenger cars because of engine problems, Kyodo News agency reported Thursday. Subject to recall are 54,217 vehicles in two models, including the Harrier sport utility vehicle. The vehicles have a defect that can cause the engine's computer control system to operate incorrectly and possibly catch fire, Kyodo said. There were two cases of fires in Japan, both happening in cars left parked with the engine running, but no one was injured, Kyodo said. The recalled models were produced between December 1997 and November 2000. It was unclear where the vehicles were sold.
November 17, 200619 yr Oh good- it's been a few months now since a good dose of toyota embarassment. Good to see it's 'steady as it goes' WRT recent quality problems.
November 17, 200619 yr I wonder if this one is under the same recall: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/worldhotne...newsid=30019166 This one recalls the Windom (ES) as well.
