Nov. 2006 Sales: Mitsubishi Motors North America

December 1, 2006 -- CYPRESS, Calif. -- Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) today reported November sales of 9,256 units, up 4% from last November's total of 8,902.

The increase included the first full month of sales of the all-new fuel-efficient crossover SUV, the Mitsubishi Outlander. Outlander sales closed the month at 1,694 units, up 41.7% from November 2005 volume.

"We're very pleased with the strong launch of the Outlander," said MMNA CEO Hiroshi Harunari. "Customers obviously recognize the vehicle's outstanding styling, performance, and value."

Other November sales highlights:

-Galant was the volume leader at 2,442, up 15.7% from November of last year.

-Eclipse Spyder closed at 424 units, up 450% from the same month last year.

-Eclipse coupe sales continued strong at 1,753 units. Eclipse sales for January through November 2006 are up 29.7% over the same period last year.

"We're so embarassed by our sales that not only will we refuse to tell you how badly some models are selling, but we don't really believe the Outlander sold as well as it did"—it was up 141%, not 41%.

They sold 2442 Galants making it their "volume leader" which works out to fewer than 30,000 cars a year. The Camry sells that in a month. Point and laugh time.

Mitsubishi Motors North America - does that mean these paltry sales include Canada's 777 sales in November?

You guys will be devastated to know that Smart's sales were down 79% in November to 78 units in CANADA. Sales are off 21% for the year.

My point: too many car companies think North America is a lucrative market and want a piece of the pie. Some of these companies shouldn't be in business.

New Outlander looks promising, but in reality, is a piece of crap.

Really? Granted, I've never seen one in person but I thought Mitsubishi finally had a competitive product that wasn't an Evo.

I didn't drive one, but its interior and overall quality seemed horrible, even worse than the Equinox. I can't imagine one with 50K miles.

but the equinox is a peach

impressive.... j/k

not that more talk of getting out of this market would help...but any idea if they're still considering that?

Maybe on paper, but at least the CRV seems well-assembled.

I love when these companies tout crazy high percentages, when in reality they've only sold a couple hundred extra cars.

Does anyone know what their fleet/retail mix is? I drove by Enterprise the other day and the lot was full of shiney new Lancers with a Galant or two mixed in.
