Preview: Volvo XC60

Pics of Volvo's conceptual small crossover, the XC60 were sucked into the black hole of the Web this morning, as the company prepares to show off the prototype at the Detroit show next month. Based on the same platform as the Land Rover LR2, the baby XC90 is expected to debut in production trim for the 2009 model year.

The XC90 is a huge success. A production version of this would do at least as well as its older brother.

Wow, do you think that has anything to do with the Mazda MX7?

Wow, I really like it.

Hey, wow! It's a Volvo that doesn't look sucky!

And that's what's called "wow factor". 8)

The basic design has potential. With a few cosmetic mods and cleanup, it could really be something.

One complaint I have is that it has too much of Ford Europe's "kinetic desigN' theme. Scandinavian design should be clean, crisp, and modern. The bulgy fender flares are too much.

I do like the interior and tailgate, though.

It looks good for the most part. Some of the details need some cleaning up, but it definitely has potential.

When I bought my Jeep, I looked at an XC90...now...if this were on the market at the same time...I'd definitely be driving it instead! It looks about as gorgeous as an SUV can (except the Enclave)
