December 29, 200619 yr Chrysler/Chery Small Car Partnership All But Confirmed The Chrysler Group has signed a letter of intent to import to the United States subcompact cars built in China by Chery Automobile, the first such deal between U.S. and Chinese automakers. Chrysler spokesman Jason Vines said the letter was signed a couple of weeks ago, and would be presented to DaimlerChrysler AG’s supervisory board for approval next month. Detroit Free Press
December 29, 200619 yr Like I said before, Chrysler should just dust off the tooling for the K-car. It'll be of higher quality.
December 29, 200619 yr Wow. I didn't think this would go through. I figured Chery would've taken one look at the Compass and its interior and run away.
December 29, 200619 yr Like I said before, Chrysler should just dust off the tooling for the K-car. It'll be of higher quality. They don't need to put the 'K' in kwality again, but the Omni/Horizon instead...a modern version of the Omni/Horizon is what Dodge needs in a subcompact, IMHO...
December 29, 200619 yr Wow. I didn't think this would go through. I figured Chery would've taken one look at the Compass and its interior and run away. Dude, when Chery saw the Compass, they wanted to sue Chrysler for copying their copy of a Jeep!
December 29, 200619 yr Maybe Daimler-Benz is looking for another merger of equals...or as equal as a small, relatively new company can look against the world's fifth largest automaker.
December 29, 200619 yr Dude, when Chery saw the Compass, they wanted to sue Chrysler for copying their copy of a Jeep! ROFLMAO!!!
December 30, 200619 yr Saturn gained notoriety serving donuts. Perhaps Chrysler dealers will serve fried Won Tons.
December 30, 200619 yr Chyrsler and Chery to make a small Dodge? C + C + D= Mediocrity any way you slice it. Come on...at least with VeeDub they would have had a nice interior. This is just leading Chrysler Group down the road to oblivion. Those pieces of crap will blow up or fall apart before they make it off the damn truck, let alone the lot. December 30, 200619 yr I happen to think the whole thing is pretty damn funny. I do feel kinda bad for Dodgefan, though, because he'll have to try and find some good in these vehicles...
December 30, 200619 yr We can laugh all we want, but this will be yet another fragmentation of the already over-crowded North American market. There were enough fools who bought Ladas 25 years ago, and if there'd been an internet in '83 we would have laughed at the Pony, too. It never ceases to amaze me at the collaborators who are so eager to sell their souls to make a few quick bucks now. These executives at DCX must be patting themselves on the backs; afterall, they can now put a few more dollars in their kids' education accounts, even though those kids will be flipping burgers in 15 years because all the jobs will be gone.
