Free HEMI with Purchase: The DCX Incentive Saga Continues

DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group plans to launch a first-ever national marketing campaign in March that will let consumers buy a Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep truck equipped with a powerful eight-cylinder Hemi for no additional charge. The popular engine typically costs an extra $1,700. Then in April, Chrysler will offer DVD entertainment systems valued at nearly $1,000 for no additional fee on every minivan it sells, George Murphy, Chrysler's vice president of marketing, told dealers in a Web cast Wednesday.

"It's something that GM and Ford don't have," Murphy told dealers. "It's going to be a conquest program for us."

Chrysler representatives would not provide additional details on the offers.

"We don't discuss these issues between our dealers and us," said Chrysler spokesman Markus Mainka. "But our general marketing approach is that we focus on key vehicles, highlighting their product features and benefits."

The company also told dealers it is launching a new incentive program for January that includes low-rate financing on high-volume products such as the Dodge Ram pickup and minivans. The program also includes up to $5,000 consumer cash on select 2007 models, including the Chrysler 300C and Dodge Charger. The new campaign is tagged "America's Hottest Product."

GM has the navigation event with Cadillac (or whatever it is). But really, these are dumb incentives. Why not just offer an extra $1700 on the hood? It's probably the same deal anyways, and then buyers think they're getting a better deal.

What about those who dont want the V8 for gas or insurance purposes pr those who dont want the DVD player because ethey'll never use it? Hopefully they offer the money on the hood to those customers.

a HEMI, they stick to the FWD craptastic stuff like the Caliber

and Jeep Compass. To them buying a burgundy Camry is a

great way to bitchslap neighbors who only had the balls to

buy a tan/silver/white one.

Now THAT'S keeping up with the Joneses.

Honestly, if you can get a HEMI for no extra charge over a V6

& you're complaining you should probably go stick your head

in the gas oven becasue you're less fun than watching paint

grow or grass dry.

I wish they'd offer a free Hemi on a base level 300 for those who like V8 power and refinement without the luxury and gadgets.

Luckily I live in the real world where, even with AFM (or whatever DCX calls it) the Hemi is going to use more gas and going to run up my insurance premium simply because its a V8. Although it may be free when it comes to the car payment it isn't actually free.

Anyway, this is a dumb incentive and is unfortunately showing DCX's desperation. They don't need incentives on The LX cars...they're fine as is...why destroy the resale value. The GC and the Commander need better interiors and tehy'd sell better (well, that and teh COmmander needs to be redesigned to actually seat 7 comfortably).

The truth behind the incentive:

Customer buys V6 Charger, goes home.

Two days later a crate is delivered to his house containing the free HEMI.

The "free" HEMI deal is only available on trucks. Aspen, Durango, Ram, Commander and Grand Cherokee.........vehicles that now have the reputation of being gas guzzling due to being large SUV's or trucks.

It only says that "incentives up to $5000" will be available on their most popular vehicles, including the LX's. That translates into somewhere around $1000 back on LX's.......which has been available from day one, if you used Chrysler Financial (they make more back with the finance charges). It's just a new marketing campaign and a rewording of past deals, used to get people who are looking for a deal interested.

I see. That's good, cuz it'd be a real shame that these massive incentives drive down the resale value of the LX cars.
