Hey everyone, for my 16th birthday my parents just surprised me today that they are taking me to detroit for the NAIAS. Every year we got to a local show like Philly and i just wanted to ask some questions to others who have been to the Detroit show before. Are there cars on the floors and open that you can sit in? How crowded does it get on public days? Any other feedback of the show would be great. Thanks guys.

Weekdays are better, but it's not terrible on the weekends. I mean, it's crowded, yeah, but you'll be able to see everything you'd like to. Last year I went on the first day of it being open to the public, and I am again this year (this coming Saturday).

And, yes, you'll definitely be able to sit in vehicles. Last year I sat in the Yukon and a few other vehicles. They also had stations where you can get your picture taken (for free) with different vehicles. I got one with a buddy being a jackass in front of the gorgeous new Aspen. *choke*

Our flight leaves at 6 on friday and we have tickets for all day saturday at the show. I'm really looking foward to it. Its good to know that i'll still be able to sit in the current production cars, and i assume thats what you meant.

i went to the NY auto show last april, which was cool, but you couldnt even go neafr the camaro and challenger cause they were on the turn tables... i got in trouble three times!

1st) asked really hot announcer lady at GM display if she came with the car, she called me a perv

2nd) pulled a metal chevy display emblem off the wall, security yelled at me.

3rd) after sitting in line for 10 minutes, i got to sit in the ZO6, and while exploring found the car i found the key under the seat... after my friends chanting me on... i stupidly started the car... no revving, just letting it idle... apparently they don't like that.... security escorted me out of the floor too the lobby.

The concept cars, like the Camaro, Volt, Trailhawk, etc. are not open, they merely rotate on turntables. Otherwise, though, pretty much all of the regular production cars on the floor will be open. As with any other major public attraction (automotive or otherwise), the earlier you get there, the better. Even still, anticipate big crowds around the most popular concepts. Unless you are freakishly tall, there's nothing much you can do. I gave up on getting a clear, full-body shot of the Camaro last year because of this happening:

Your the kind of person that deserves to be escorted out. Complete lack of respect for the cars or anything else. Its people like you that ruin good things for everyone else. Like why manufacturers have to remove dials from stereo and/or HVAC controls so losers like you don't take them for a quick laugh with your buddies.

The Detroit show is very crowded. I only went once and it's a cool experience (just because it's THE NAIAS), but Chicago is nicer, less crowded, and has more vehicles.

It's funny you say you started the car.... not gonna happen cause all the batteries are disconnected and inspected by the firemarshal before the show even starts. I'm calling shenanagans! Also, the corvette is push button start too not key start!

Hey guys,

I just got back from the show tonight and let me say, it was incredible. I was at the show all day saturday for 11 hours and it was worth every minute of waiting. I didnt think that it was too crowded, the only place it was rediculously crowded was around ferrari, lambo, rolls, etc. I was especially surprised at the fact that I could easily get many pictures of the Camaro convertable, even on the first day. It was well worth it and thanks for your guys help. By the way, i'm new here since the recent downfall of caranddriver's horrible forum software...
