Thanks Northie, it's the 5.3L, AFM, 315 hp V8.

Simple and nice. I see you're preparing for next year's calendar ;)

  • Author
hehe, yup Mr. Fly. I'm not entirely happy with the lighting in these pics, but when I went to pull forward a bit so the backend was more in the sunshine... boom, camera died.
  • Author
Thanks bobo, I do too. I think it looks better on the 900s than it did on the 800s. And the GM Accessory chrome mirror covers and door handles set it off, imo.

I bet it's relatively quick with 315HP, considering it's standard cab short bed.

Looks great, and I bet it feels like it's from a whole other world and standard compared to the Colorado (just had to get one more jab in there about that thing).

Terrific color and equipment choices too--the GMC is my favorite, as far as looks, on the trucks.

She's a beauty-congrats, ocn!

Looks much better than the Silverado single cab, short bed... That's for sure. Congrats. Looks good.

That's a sexy beast. The interior looks quite good too!. I personally prefer extended or crew cab models with short beds as far as proportions go...still it's a purdy truck. Best of luck with it!.

Thanks, everyone. But I think I have a problem already. I may not be able to get it out of the garage. It's much taller than the Colorado. Two inches of the radio antenna hits the top of my garage door frame. When I put it in the garage, the garage door was in the process of gliding upward on its track... but with the door fully open, the bar to pull when the automatic opener doesn't work hangs down pretty far. It looks like it will hit the roof and smash out the 3rd brake light when I back past it. :o I really hope my perspective was off last night. I may need to call an emergency C&G meeting to get 8 or 10 of you guys to stand in the back of it to bring it down low enough so I can back it out. Now I have a real excuse for lowering the back end down some! :AH-HA_wink:

Here's a list of (hopefully) tasteful mods I have in mind. Feedback appreciated:

Rear end lowering, 2" drop

Goodyear Fortera Triple Tred 265/70 17 tires. The 245s are a bit narrow, imo

Dual exhaust with polished tips, side exit behind wheel (less redneck than straight out the back, imo)

BedRug liner (I love those things)

Hard tonneau cover, black, comes off in 3 sections so it's easy to remove if I need to

Chrome tailgate handle cover to match the doors

Body color, smooth tailgate topper

Rear wheelwell blackout (which might help visually reduce the big wheel-to-body gap at the back)

Damn. What a nice truck. 8)

Nice purchase, Ocn.

Nice truck Blu Man! Looks great! Love the color.

As far as the feedback goes, I would definitely get some lower profile rubber and lower the truck a little, that would help with your garage situation and it would give you a sportier wheel to body proportion that you talked about in your post.

Thanks for showin your truck Bluman. Get that camera fixed and take more pics!

Man Ocn. I feel like throwing my TSX and Lumina off and getting me one. Any idea of what gas mileage you are getting? With the 315 hp, I am sure you are rocketing it of. Great buy.

Great looking truck. Get that camera working again - I need to see a side shot showing the whole side of the truck. You gave me just about what the brochure shows of the regular cab!

I'd be really tempted to get rid of my SKY if GMC added the E63 Sportside bed option again... my dream truck was always a Regular Cab, Sportside bed, SLE/Z71 4WD pickup (see attached picture of the last year the Sportside bed was available).

That Stealth Gray (aka Slatestone <Buick> or Blue Granite <Chevy>) is one hell of a color and would have been my choice too; I fear that since most of the other GM divisions have gotten rid of that color for 2007, the GM trucks will follow after 2007.

Ocn, I can't wait to see the truck either at one of the Carlisle shows or in the fall at Hershey.

This truck is awsome!!!

Billion, kajilion, mega-super-trillion times cooler than some FWD VolksWagen economy car!

Too bad you caould not get a 5-speed though :(

And BTW: last nights' emergency TIGHT WHIPS meeting involved XP & I riding in the back

of Speeding Penguin's Jeep Comanchee... as in inside the bed. Long story involving a very

leaky fuel pump on a 1964 Oldsmobile after I drove the car at highway speeds for over

180 miles to check out a 1959 Buick for sale. We also saw a super scary 3-story house on

fire in Worcester. It was an INFERNO! So sitting in the back of your GMC to bring lower the

truck enough to get it out of your garage after that is CHILDSPLAY.

Well, I stood up in the bed and stuck my measuring tape between the cab and bed, down to the floor of my garage. I measured the truck at almost 73.5" tall. I have about an inch clearance between the truck and that garage door pulldown bar. *Whew*

It is snowing here today, so no new pics yet. So far, the G80 is doing fine. My fuel economy average on the DIC keeps going up. So far it is at 16.5, not bad for a green engine with about 80% in-town driving. Also, this is hilly country around here. Of course, I've been gentle with it so far. On the highway, the switch from V8 to V4 is imperceptible, I have to rely on the DIC to tell me when it switches. Did I tell you I love the DIC? :AH-HA_wink:

Thanks for all the kind comments, and I want to post some more pictures when the weather gets decent.

Oh, and I hate tire dressing. My wheels are all greasy and black from the crap they put on the tires when they cleaned it for delivery.

Edited by ocnblu

The tires were either dirty or they didn't let the tire dress dry before moving it, because done properly it should look good, even after driving.

Great looking truck enjoy that Vortec power. Light the tires up for me once!

I agree about the tire dressing... all the dealerships I've worked at it is

just a greasy, tacky goop that sticks to tires and then DIRT sticks to IT.

But it does LOOK good for the delivery photo.

very nice truck, blu. i love the color and the grille is very menacing. Perfect truck for you, I think. Wheels are nice also.

way to go!

It's not a W-body, but it is nice for what it is. J/K. Compliments on the color and the wheels. It has a nice, clean front end. I see that the standardization of dials (light switches) has spread throughout the GM line. Those have showed up on many Chev products I've rented. How long did you keep your previous truck, anyway?

  • Author
Three years almost to the day. That's actually on the high side of average for me. Thanks once again, fellers.

Edited by ocnblu

Gorgeous truck, blu. I love the steering wheel.. And the rest of it looks great as well. :P

Thanks, sir.

Fitting it in and out of the garage better yet?

Awesome ride, dude! Just one more person making me jealous of the fact that they have a truck and I don't. Maybe someday....

:withstupid:(even though I have an Envoy, it's not a Sierra!)

Dude, that is so nice! I'm anxious to see the side shots myself. I haven't seen a standard cab version of either the Sierra or Silverado. I also like where you took the picture. I've never seen a covered bridge in person. One of these days, I'd like to take a drive down through your neck of the woods. I bet it's beautiful down there. I've been to Fallingwater twice (I want to live there.) and that's the extent of my travels in Pennsylvania.

this is a rear end shot in the Mickey D's parking lot (the diner was full this morning at breakfast time). you can see the factory rake in this shot, which will be remedied with 2" lowering shackles that are on order...

Nice truck 'blu, I've alays preferred the looks of a reg cab/ short bed than any other configuration availabe on trucks.

Have you decided what ypu're going to trade it in on in a couple of years? :CG_all::lol2::P

  • Author
Um... your mom? (same GVWR?) :smilewide:

It looks nice!! I'm just dismayed you didn't get a navigation system considering how much you love those :AH-HA_wink:

:banghead: :AH-HA_wink:

Yessiree, that looks mighty fine! Is that the short bed or the medium-short bed? Also, is the ride very bouncy? When I first got my F150 (which was a regular cab short bed) I thought something was wrong with the suspension it was so bouncy going down the road. My truck previous to the Ford was a regular cab full size bed Sierra so the wheel base was longer and it's ride was way more stable.

It's 6.5'... I guess that's "medium shawt"?

I find the ride comfortable. I test drove an extended cab 4WD '07 Sierra, and mine doesn't seem any different than that longer truck. With the Z85 "handling/trailering" suspension tuning, it really corners nice, too, much flatter than the Colorado, and better than I remember my Z85 '02 Silverado in the same bodystyle as this new one.

Oh, and I put my second mod in motion today, I ordered my BedRug liner.

Edited by ocnblu

Looks awesome 'blu! :) Congrats!!

Oh, and I put my second mod in motion today, I ordered my BedRug liner.

No fuzzy dice or baton rack in the back window? :P

  • Author

hehe, nope, no Yosemite Sam "Back Off!" mudflaps, either. :AH-HA_wink:

Hmmm... what do you guys think of a nice set of chromed, louvered fender skirts? And, for safety, I could put a row of stick-on reflectors across my tailgate. Maybe a set of simulated exhaust stacks for the bed, complete with flapper caps. Ooo, ooo, also those gnarly illuminated corner marker antenna things for the front bumper, those are neat. Let's see, a backup beeper, TruckNutz... ohhhhh, I gotta have a set of TruckNutz. A TWEETY BIRD ANTENNA TOPPER! J.C. Whitney, I love you!:blink::mellow:*snaps out of it* WTF was that?

Edited by ocnblu

Dude, you just need to put a Baby On Board sign in the window and the look will be complete.

  • Author
Well, I already have a "Honk if you're horny!" sign with a suction cup for the back window. I guess another trip to Pep Boys is in order for today. Also, I want to see if they have any stick-on hood scoops.
