Riviera engine swap

Featured Replies

I was wondering what engine I can go with if i keep my stock transmission. I have the olds 307 right now. I was thinking about the supercharged 3.8L v6 off gm parts direct. I'm pretty sure my trans can't handle that though. Anyone have any good ideas, I'm still open to what engine combo I will use. I would just get another 307 but I really wanted more miles per gallon. Also what transmissions would look good to put in for different engine combos?

What transmission does the car have currently? You could go with a non-supercharged 3.8, or better, what year is your Riv?

Its a 1985 riviera with the 307 and the THM 325-4L transmission.

You could always go with a 4.3 out of a Monte Carlo from the same year, that way you get 6 cylinder fuel economy. I'm not exactly sure if the bell housing on the transmission would bolt directly to the engine, but i know that most engine/transmission combinations from GM are interchangeable. then again, a 3.8 would also work, you'd jsut have to forgo the supercharger unless you want to go with a heavier duty transmission.

I think the trans would be fine

the 307 puts about 160 hp and 230 ft torque

I dont think a 3800 supercharged will over lap it by more than 50 hp.

I would steal a 3800 turbo from the regal T-type.
