Transmission Woes...SHIFT DAMMIT!!!

Featured Replies

If you guessed Intrepid...you'd be...

Wrong. Not the Shadow either.

(both of those Dodge's transmissions shift fine, much to those who say DCX transmissions are crap)

It's...the Geo Prizm!

Yeah that's right, the one with "Toyota Quality"

Yesterday (which was freezing), I set off too school but first went to Shell to get gas. I pulled in and gassed up. Turne the car on and went to put it into 1st...and it wouldn't go. 2nd...no...3rd...no...4th...no...5th...that's be a "f@#k you asshole I don't feel like moving" no.

Eventually I managed to force it into 1st and I was off to school. i got to the lights at R110 in Lowell (by Consumer Auto Parts for those of you who know the area), and come to a red light. I go tp put it into first and...nothing. I had toput my hazards on and wave people past until I finally jammed it into gear. When I got out of class, I put it in reverse and it did so...butonce again I ouldn't go into any of the other gears. The best I could manage was to get it into 3rd...so i drove to the parts store (CAP) and got some clutch fluid. Added some until it was to the top...which didn't take much. t helped a little but today I still am having probles shifting.

What's strange is that when the car is off, I can move through teh gears just fine. But when it's on it gives me hell, and when I go to pull it out of gear it fights me a little. I also noticed the clutch seems to not have as much resistance as it normally does....I hae no idea what the problem is. The clutch was replaced back in July and the transmission was replaced in November. So...WTF?!

Damn Toyota "quality". Moving in reverse...

wow... I wish I could help you or give advice, but I got not idea WTF that's all about.

Sounds like there's something serious going on however. My dad had a early 1980s

VW Rabbit 5-speed back in the day and his shifter got all jammed up in Neutral

when some rubber gasket came out of place. He told me this story when I was like

12 years old though so my details might be a bit innacurate.

Sighs.... My poor baby!! I dont know what Dodgefan did to f*** up my poor baby.. (just kidding) :( I swear i am gonna kill something if it is the damn clutch again. Sigh, i never thought I would say this.... but I am about to start thinking it is time for a new car... :(:Toyota::thumbsdown::banghead::cry: but i love my prizm!! :hissyfit: I just really dont know what to do... and hear to think i JUST got a damn job! and my damn car is f***ing up!! DAMNIT!

Maybe my car is getting back at me because I have not been driving it lately... It has been Dodgefan.. iunno just a thought..

Well to anyone besides Sixty8 that cares, the problem turned out to be the clutch cylinders. Apparently the Master was leaking and the Slave wouldn't open...so they had to replace both. The grand total was $281.65. Of course, now it feels really weird to shift because it used to be that the clutch engaged towards the bottom of the throw, but now it's near the top...it's uncomfortable. The mechanic says that's how it should be, but it will also get better with use...is that right?

And on a final not, to add insult to injury...the driver's seat adjuster is jammed...can't move it forward or back...at least it's all the way back. That seat is straight from the Corolla too...Toyota Quality!

Glad to see you got it fixed.

I've always heard that toyota, honda and nissan clutches are fairly weak, and then to go out often.

Well my friend has a `93 Corolla and his clutch and tranny are still original. He has had to have the master clutch cylinder replaced before though. His has around 20k less mmiles on it though...so maybe he has something too forward to?

Oh What A Feeling! TOYOTA!

(Couldn't resist :))

Glad your car got fixed. Could've been worse...

Wow... sorry to hear that Dude, $282 is a lot of cake. :(

Still at least it's fixed, right?

Seems liek Toyotas with high milage often have "broken seat" problems,

going on friend's past experience. Then again the average Japanese

person is quite a bit shorter and lighter than us Americans, but still that's

no excuse, if you're going to sell cars here make them hold up to an

Average American buyer.

I've got an appt. for the Infiniti to get a diagnostic check next wed.

because it stalls out at times since the new fuel pump. it's usually at

an intersection when slowing down to a near stop. The service

advosor said most likely it's the Mass Air Flow sensor from how I

described it but the MAF was replaced last May under our warranty

from the dealerhisp we bought it from. Which might mean they

installed a generic one and now we're F***ed.

And you were the one who told me to buy a Geo Prizm. I wouldn't drive any Toyota garbage anyways. If I did, the car may just go ramming GMs and innocent Berettas.
