February 8, 200719 yr ...But Firefox isn't exactly God's gift to web browsing. http://www.tgdaily.com/2007/02/08/firefox_security/
February 8, 200719 yr Both situations require user thought. A user thinking is the biggest security hole in any software.
February 8, 200719 yr I tried Firefox about a year back based on what I heard about it here. After about a week I switched back because I did not prefer Firefox.
February 8, 200719 yr Author Both situations require user thought. A user thinking is the biggest security hole in any software. Now that's the truth. There was a security hole found in Windows Vista's voice recognition software. If you play a sound file that gives off commands, those commands could be used to destroy the contents of your computer. Of course, for that to work in a malicious matter, you have to turn on voice recognition. Then, you have to accept a sound file from an unknown source. You would have to have speakers and a microphone plugged in. And finally, you would have to be dumb enough to let the sound file play all the way through. Actually, the pop-up blocker exploit isn't all that much different as far as user intervention goes. I'm just glad the days of easy "nukes" are mostly over. I remember when I logged into certain online games in Windows 95, I would come across some random dude and next thing I know I got a Blue Screen (not of death, that's only on NT operating systems) and lost my Internet connection for a few minutes. Security has come a long way. (edited to include quote for context) Edited February 8, 200719 yr by aaaantoine
February 8, 200719 yr What Oldsmoboi said. For me, IE never gave me any problems as far as security went. When it crashed and somehow became unable to be used... that's a different story. Edited February 8, 200719 yr by blackviper8891
February 8, 200719 yr Here's the thing... Firefox's volunteers and the like will likely patch this up if they deem it necessary, and likely do it in due time. Microsoft would do the same... but they'll have it ready in a month or so...
February 8, 200719 yr I just like Firefox better. It's easier to use, customizable (MOUSE GESTURES ARE AMAZING), and the popup blocker isn't retarded.
February 9, 200719 yr Wooooo 2 minor issues in Firefox versus 2,434,348,498,489,399 and counting in IE...clearly the choice is a hard one
February 10, 200719 yr I started with IE then moved to Firefox for tabed browsing, now I use Opera LONG LIVE THE WAND!
