Around 5:30 Monday night, Keith (evo4g63) and I were heading down Cerrillos Road when we spotted the silver prototype Nissan Skyline, along with 2 black Armadas turning into an Amigo Mart on the opposite side of the road. Being that this was a rare sighting, we quickly flipped a "U" and pulled into the station. As we pulled in, the car surrounded by roughly 12 Asian guys who were logging information. Hoping that they spoke English, we decided to get down to talk with them about the car. I asked one of the guys what he thought of the car, and you guessed it, he had no idea what I was saying. However, he did manage to whisper a question into my ear, "you know GTR", in which I replied, "heck yes". As he asked me that, I noticed a large bulge on the right hand side of the covered interior. To my pleasant surprise it was a Japanese version Skyline equipped with factory turbos. We spoke with the reps from Nissan Japan a bit longer, and after a good 10-15 minutes of leg humping, let them get back on the road. The car has Michigan plates, and is being tested on US roads, so make sure to keep an eye out for it!

The Jeep Wragler went to a V6 after years of I6s...

Mercedes pu$$ied out a while back and replaced the I6 with a V.

Porsche 911s are H2) cooled....

For every new GOOD innovation we get in the 21st century a few

old school, tried & true, time tested innovations/benefits are

thrown in the dumpster like yesterday's newspaper.

They probably went to a V6 for packaging issues and so they could phase out the straight 6....I like straight 6s, but the Nissan V6 is an excellent engine (from what I've read and experienced with driving Maximas and 350Zs..)

not the Camry or even Maxima we're talking about... it's a legendary super-car

that has always cast practicality aside for the sake of performance & design purity.

The inherant smoothness of a inline-6 coupled with the ease of maintenance is why

I will never like V6s very much but I LOVe inline-6s. That's what makes a V12 so

very smooth is that it's basically two I6 fused at the crank, but then again I'd even

love to own a I8 powered Buick someday.

Oh I understand..I love straight 6s..(I own two, after all).. I'm sure it was more a business decision than a technical one.. i.e. base the engine on a V6 used in other models, because I'm not sure if any Nissans still use a straight 6 (in Japan or other markets).

One thing about the next GT-R, I'd prefer they keep 'Skyline' as part of the name (though it's not based on the regular Skyline anymore (G35). I've always liked the Skyline name..
