DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is eyeing a location in Van Buren Township for a new factory that would build its coming line of V-6 engines, dubbed "Phoenix." Chrysler spokeswoman Curtrise Garner confirmed the company's interest in the site Friday, but said no timeline has been set for when the automaker will make a final decision about where to locate a new plant. "It's so early in the process," Garner said. "It's hard to say when we can actually say something final when we are still looking for the location." The new plant would be part of Chrysler's planned $3 billion investment in the development of new engines, transmissions and axles as the automaker aims to make its truck-heavy lineup more fuel efficient. The new family of engines would equip Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles and Mercedes vehicles by 2010.

It puts my mind slightly at rest whenever any of the Big Three decide to invest in Metro Detroit. Hell, even Michigan in general.

This is good news. You know, I've read many reports that Daimler and Chrysler may remain together. Whatever the case, $3 billion invested in America is a good thing, whether its from the Big 3 or from Toyota.
