More pictures on the Audi RS6 Forum

Things to be aware of:

  • The car is an Audi RS6 Avant ABT, and was in pristine condition before the incident.
  • The photos show the car exactly as it was after the crash (there was no cutting of moving of the vehicle done by the emergency response team).
  • The driver called emergency services on his cellphone and got out unaided.
  • The driver had only minor scratches, and after a couple of hours in hospital, came out with only a bandage on his little finger.
And for the understatement of the day, "The police believe that excessive speed was a contributory factor in the accident".

Wow, I'm trying to figure out how that's even possible. The car split in two because of the tree?

That's one less hot wagon in the world.

Lucky bastard. The only part of the passenger compartment that is not obliterated is the driver's seat. He hit the tree just right.

I've seen some pretty incredible photos of other VW/Audi vehicles, a Beetle and a TT, that amazed me with the damage they sustained while saving the lives of their passengers.

The tree doesn't look the least bit concerned.

One thing seems odd... if the car was going really fast (and the damage supports that), why didn't it fly further down the road after the impact? It seems to have stopped very short. The G-forces on that driver must have been tremendous, making his survival even more miraculous, imo.

Maybe the tree blocked it from flying down the road. You can kind of see where it hit the tree and spun apart.

May be the car got cut even before it hit the tree.

But one lucky bastard.

Thats a trip. I cant wait for 68 to see this and say "The car would've come through much better if it were BOF." To bad the guy would be in about 40 different pieces.

That's a fairly small tree, and there's not a mark on it... not even damaged bark or reflective band... I'm starting to wonder... look at the fluid on the road, you can see a wide trail to the left of the main splat, and look at the debris on the ground before the tree in question... perhaps there is another tree behind the photographer that the car hit. Something just seems out of place.

A lot of people in other forums are commenting about the tree not showing any damage. I suspect that there's another tree involved that isn't in any of the photographs.

However, the crash is quite real. Here's details from one of the English language Luxembourg news services.
