0-Day 4-Door Wrangler Supply?

Jeep dealer Chuck Eddy in Austintown, Ohio, was used to waiting until spring for Jeep Wrangler customers to show up. When autumn came, sales of the old two-door Wrangler would pretty much dry up.

That's because the previous Wrangler, sold with two doors only, was a "box on shocks," a rough and ready vehicle with a drop-down top and side windows made of plastic.

It was noisy and the ride bouncy, but it could go anywhere. Wrangler drivers got closer to the elements than drivers of other vehicles.

All that changed when the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited four-door arrived last fall.

These days Eddy has zero days' supply -- in the midst of a harsh winter.

"I can't remember when it was zero days' supply," he says. "If you order now, it's a 45-day turnaround."

I love the Wrangler Unlimited. It looks hawt! Especially with the hardtop. This just goes to prove that Chrysler would be fine if all their vehicles were designed as well as the Wrangler (and Charger).

I've never seen a Jeep product catch on so fast around here...I've seen like 8 in the past 2 days, all free of rental barcodes and stickers.

Personally, though, I'd stick with my ideal Wrangler: a 2-door soft-top with a manual.

Build a Unlimited Rubicon with a Hemi and I will find anyway possible to get one!

I like the Wrangler in both the 2dr and 4dr forms.. it's a good product, better for Jeep than the Compass, IMHO. I've thought a used Rubicon would be a fun vehicle, though I wouldn't want one as a daily driver (too rough, too basic inside).

The Unlimited looks great in that forest green color (whatever they call it)...

The 4-door model is amazing. Sat in one at the auto show and I wouldn't mind owning one. I think the new Wrangler's side profile looks great and that green color fits the car perfectly.

This just goes to prove that Chrysler would be fine if all their vehicles were designed with a modicum of relevence and purpose like the Wrangler.

Yep. And I would love to get my hands on a 4dr...

It's too bad you're being too bias against other companies to just buy a vehicle you like.

I love my Jeep, and would like to own any of them...except the Compass...They are the ONLY brand outside of GM that I would buy without second guessing myself. I've also found that Jeep Green makes any of their products look extremely good and outdoor biased. I'm glad that something seems to be going good for Chrysler right now...

Just goes to show that we yanks can build great vehicles when we want to.

Cool, and at least some good news for Chrysler. I've only seen a handful of new Wranglers, one of which was a 2 door and the rest 4's, and I like the "same but new" look. Always been a utilitarian and fun little thrasher, but now has some nice--and not overly so--road refinement and some real utility with the 4 doors and more space.

Hope it continues to do well, at least it'll be one thing they can sell besides LX cars.

A friend of mine has a 1997 Jeep Wrangler (manual, 6cyl) that he bought new off the lot way back when. He STILL has the thing and it's STILL in pristine shape. It's only had one minor problem. The thing has been through hell and back and it's STILL an awesome ride. Even though it's pretty dangerous, I love driving in his vehicle with no doors and no roof. We actually tried to drive with the front window down but that was too much for us. Anyway, even though these things are a VERY rough ride and are less accommodating than a refugee camp, these are possibly the best SUVs on the market and is one of the few things that Chrysler has going for them.

Biased? I get the GM Employee discount, that saves me thousands. It's simple economics, nothing to do with bias!

Fantastic news for Jeep, and Chrysler. Now, if they can remember to return Jeep to what is was meant to be. Get rid of that Compass and build Jeeps!

There was a concept in 1998 (I think) that was a 4-door Wrangeler, I want to say it was called the Rubicon, but dont hold me to that, I could be off on the name and year. It looked great, wish it hadn't taken them so long.

The president of my company just received her 4-door Wrangler. By itself this is meaningless, however I include three key pieces of info:

1. She ordered it rather than choose from the lot. Received last week, ordered in October!

2. Traded in a Honda Element. (She also owns an S2000) Conquest sale.

3. Her husband is sales manager of the local Kia dealership. Didn't buy a Sorento.

Where did you get your 44% number? I had heard somewhere that the four-door was projected to be the far-and-away volume leader....something like 80% of production?

I'd call it a 4x4. SUV to me implies a wagon for the suburbs (Explorer, Tahoe, etc)..
