Mexican Criminals Offered Xbox 360 in Return for Handing in Firearms

Featured Replies

It's long been touted that virtual violence can easily replace actual violence. Apparently, the mayor of Mexico City wants to see if that'll hold up.

Mexico City (Mexico) The new mayor of Mexico City is offering criminals a free Xbox 360 for every handgun, and a free PC for higher caliber firearms such as assault rifles, that are handed into police in an amnesty, according to Reuters.

The move is being trialled in one of the more dangerous neighborhoods in the city and will be extended elsewhere if it proves a success. Already 17 handguns have been handed in, with the ex-criminals walking away with an Xbox 360 with which to conduct crime and mayhem in a less destructive virtual environment.

It's cheaper to buy illegal firearms than it is a new XBOX so this is a f*ckin' bargain!

Internet will be flooded with Virtual Gangs. Imagine playing multiplayer games against former gang members.

I think they should also put in games for every ammunition cartridge they own.

The head of the gang will go to the government and say I want 15 Xboxes and 7 PCs for my stuff.
