April 10, 200718 yr That's what they've always called the Liberty in some foreign markets. Might just be called Liberty in the U.S. actually...I don't remember.
April 10, 200718 yr It's the Cherokee in other countries like Europe...honestly I have no idea why they dropped the name since they uses it's basic design as inspiration for so many of their vehicles these days.
April 10, 200718 yr I think the name 'Liberty' may be too, 'American' for people in Europe. No it's just that the 'Cherokee' brand has a following in Europe since the early/mid eighties, when it was powered by a small diesel engine, which IIRC was a Renault engine. You don't change brand names unless you intend to pursue a radical makeover (Grand Prix to G8 being a good example even if one doesn't like alphanumeric names).
April 10, 200718 yr I think the name 'Liberty' may be too, 'American' for people in Europe. If anything, 'Liberty' would probably be too ideologically French, with "Liberty, equality, fraternity" being the motto of France and the Statue of Liberty being a gift from the French people to the US.
April 10, 200718 yr I've seen quite a few of those Cherokees here in Italy...Chrysler has quite the presence here (300, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, 300 Estate (Magnum), Voyager, Wrangler, and Caliber are all sold here).

Yes..I was surprised how many Jeeps I saw in Italy when I was there a few years ago...so many dark blue Grand Cherokees that looked like mine. They looked huge in Rome parked amongst Fiats and other small European hatchbacks.
