Chrysler Group sales up 2%

Featured Replies

The Chrysler Group sold 193,104 vehicles last month compared to 190,095 in April 2006.

Sales were helped by a 29% increase in sales of Jeep brand products in April compared to April 2006 and a 10% increase in the sale of minivans compared to the same month last year. Sales of Dodge Rams also held steady, gaining 2%.

"Chrysler Group increased sales in April based on a solid retail performance -- despite two less selling days than in the previous year and a challenging market environment," Steven Landry, executive vice president of NAFTA sales, global marketing, service and parts, said in a statement. "Driven by the continuously strong Jeep Wrangler and the new Jeep Patriot, sales for the Jeep brand were up significantly by 29 percent."

Mercedes-Benz U.S. sales dipped 8% in April compared to April 2006, though the company said the past month was its second best April on record, selling 20,895 vehicles.

Fleet sales no doubt are a contributing factor...but it's still nice to see them up. The Jeep brands success (thanks to the new Wrangler) are a hint to Chrysler: do the vehicle right and people will buy it.

As for Mercedes...
