May 2, 200718 yr I got to thinking after all this B-pillar / hardtop b***hing going on... Why can't we have a coupe that has a B-pillar AND a roll down rear window? Has that been done, and if not, is it possible??

Has been done, a long time ago.... 2dr sedans often had roll-down rear windows.. the '68-72 Novas were like that, and other '60s-early '70s (A-bodies, B-bodies) were like that, I think..

My 69 Custom-S doesn't have a B pillar, but some do, depends on if it was classified as a hardtop or coupe, so I am told!
May 3, 200718 yr Look closely. My B-59s do not roll down ALL the way but they do roll down a good 80% of the way. It's still dissapointing to me to have a fixed B-pillar but at least the glass is not GLUED into place. Not to mention that gorgeous stainless steel greenhouse trim is a far cry from the modern semi-gloss plastic B-pillar trim panel that is usually 3-4" wide & looks as attractive as a piece of rubbermaid garbage can plastic in one year.
May 3, 200718 yr Right up until 1973, when GM's A- and A-special coupes did away with it. Perhaps we have GM's cost-cutting move to thank for a lack of hardtop open-air motoring today.
May 3, 200718 yr Yeah, most all post-war 2-dr sedans had roll down rear windows until the advent of circa 1970 'entry-level' cars, the Plymouth Duster & Ford Maverick (pivoting quarter windows) being 2 such. Fixed quarter windows (no roll, no pivot) came about shortly after- the '73 A-Body models had them. Obviously, I am not including foreign makes here. Sixty8- I believe it's the taller roofline on the sedans that prevents the quarter window from retracting 100%, because of course the hardtops' do. Edited May 3, 200718 yr by balthazar
May 3, 200718 yr My 71 Nova has a B-Pillar... but the rear quarter windows roll down... but damn do i wish it lacked that pillar...

May 3, 200718 yr The rear windows in my '72 MC roll down ... but, I rarely have 'em down because I'm used to the rear windows NOT rolling down...hehe. May 3, 200718 yr Balthazar: Yeah... the 1959 2dr hardtop GMs I've seen all had their windows sunk ALL the way down. Yet to see a 2dr Buick ht other than yours. Ever. B-59s are NONEXISTANT in my neck of the woods. Can't tell you how many people have told me thier personal B-59 story and then said: "it's been YEARS since I saw a B-59!!!" Ddgefan: Nice hacksaw... I've threatened it with the Datsuns... it would be funny to make a 4dr hardtop Maxima. Then agai they sold Datsun 4dr hardtops in Australia, Japan & a few other places... This is a 4-cylider, Australian Spec. version of my Datsun that has NO b-pillar. Hanging seatbelts kind of ruin it though.
May 3, 200718 yr Nothing was worse then the front window of the H platform. It served no purpose. It looked like a side vent but wasn't! Just my personal gripe here, continue with your conversation! Edited May 3, 200718 yr by Pontiac Custom-S
May 3, 200718 yr Agreed! 1. It looks like $hit. 2. It serves NO purpose 3. I'm a skinny dude but push come to shove after a bad accident even I would not be able to squeze out of a Bonneville or Park Ave. if the car was on fire but the door was stuck. It's quite often that I see these cars on the road and think WTF was GM thinking?
May 3, 200718 yr I wonder what the deal the H car doors was...was it the shape of the door was such that a full-size window would not go all the way down, so they put in the fake vent window? Seems like a design flaw.
May 3, 200718 yr Those small fixed front windows on the H-bodies allowed the glass to be tapered, which contributed to the hidden pillar/floating roof look of the cars. However, the side mirrors had to be placed too far back in order to be visible.
May 3, 200718 yr Off topic... 68..why oh why did you affix "Le Sabre" script to the front quarterpanel???
May 3, 200718 yr Since I work at a sign shop I had access to black reflective vinyl. I cut it out by hand and slapped it on for $h!ts & giggles. But yes, sometime soon I'm taking a credit card to it and scrapping it off. It's not at all permanent.
May 3, 200718 yr If Chevy can put a roll down rear window in the Chevy Silverado Extended Cab. I am sure, they can and should do that in the Camaro.

Although that Bonne is quite sexy. For the record, I did bitch just a little about the Challenger having a B-pillar. And I'm not crazy about the fake vent-window on the H-Body cars. However, either one of those niggling complaints are not factors that would prevent me from owning either if I had the money to buy one. NOTE: There is one thing that is much more annoying than that fake H-Body vent window. Anyone remember how GM would black-out the A-pillars on the 1994 S-10 and 1995 Blazer to get that same H-Body "floating roof" effect? Yeah. Edited May 3, 200718 yr by YellowJacket894
