Got Those Hardtop Blues?

Toyota has the cure. :spin::alcoholic:

But strangely.... you could add a b-pillar if you wanted the Landau look.

My 1985 Toronado looked just like this except in all black.

the B-pillar can be removed with just 2 screws.

Like I said in the Camaro-and-B-pillars thread: My S-10 doesn't have a B-pillar ... so is it a hardtop? :P

>>"My S-10 doesn't have a B-pillar ... so is it a hardtop? "<<

No- it's a coupe technically (no quarter windows), but the fact that it's a truck with an open bed supercedes that, so it's a... truck.

Even if the S-10 had frameless glass, it would not be a hardtop- it's window/pillar configurations that determine the classification.

I suppose if I HAD to own a Toyota I'd rather have a 2-dr hardtop

Corolla with RWD & a 5-speed. At least they still tried to make a

hardtop in 1982 when everyone except for M.B. & Nissan gave up.

Althought the whole side-impact argument quadroples in this case,

ever seen the crashworthyness of one of these Corollas? I would

think the think sheetmetal & weak unbody on his Corolla means it

breaks in half in a nasty T-bone.

If I was going to buy a Japanese hardtop I'd want a Datsun. :P

And NO the E-body's did not have a solid, thick B-pillar but they are

NOT 100% true hardtops since their 1/4 windows do not go down.

I agree that they look much better without the cumbersome B-pillar.

The 2nd gen. Chrysler Cordoba & its Dodge brother had the same

type of greenhouse... but still not rear window mechanism.

I appears that the 1978 Chrysler Newport and New Yorkers were

the last American true pillarless hardtops made.

You don't have frameless glass... so no.

You guys know that was my attempt at a joke ... right? :P

Umm, Really? :P

1976 four door B-bodys were the last hardtops made by GM.

There's a small chance I may own one within a week or so. :D

The G6 does NOT count, it's a retractible hardtop.

The 1977 versions were not hardtops?

'77 was the first year of the boxy downsized model.
Yeah, the '77s were all sedans, with framed door glass and B-pillars. Sixty8 mentioned the '76 fullsize GM four-doors as the last GM hardtops... what about the 2-doors? In the restyle for '74, they had a slim, frameless quarter glass in addition to the larger, fixed quarter glass. Did that small window go down, or was it fixed?

O.B.

I do not beleive it went down at all.... was it not glued in

same as the small glass in the C-pillar of the 4drs was?

Here's a picture of a '74 Bonneville 2 door hardtop coupe:

The small quarter glass is down in this photo from the brochure of that year.

Ah, yes ... indeed.

My bad ... and apologies. I was thinking of something else ... heh.
